BACKGROUND: A cellular stress response (CSR) is triggered upon recombinant protein synthesis which acts as a global feedback regulator of protein expression. To remove this key regulatory bottleneck, we had previously proposed that genes that are up-regulated post induction could be part of the signaling pathways which activate the CSR. In human submandibular gland cells, carbachol (CCh) induced flickery channel activity while thapsigargin (Tg) induced burst-like activity, with relatively lower open probability (NP(o)) and longer mean open time. To determine the extent to which the effect of a physiologic increment in epinephrine (EPI) on glucose production (GP) arises indirectly from its action on peripheral tissues (muscle and adipose tissue), epinephrine was infused intraportally (EPI po) or peripherally (EPI pe) into 18-h-fasted conscious dogs maintained on a pancreatic clamp. Arterial EPI levels in EPI po and EPI pe groups rose from 97 +/- 29 to 107 +/- 37 and 42 +/- 12 to 1,064 +/- 144 pg/ml, respectively. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the gross anatomy of the recurrent and superior laryngeal nerves (RLNs and SLNs) in 10 human larynges.
METHODS: Whole larynges were processed to clear all soft tissue while leaving nerves stained. Then the main laryngeal nerves and the muscles they innervate were dissected and analyzed.
