Parameters estimation of gas capture through Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) with CFD.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture is a crucial process to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and reduce anthropogenic impact on climate change. The 3-D model is choosing to capture carbon dioxide from real natural gas (NG) using a mixed matrix membrane (MMM) consisting of polysulfone (PSF) with nanoparticles of covalent organic frameworks (CT-1). In this work, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) estimated the parameters of MMM for CO2 gas separation. Fick's law is utilized of gas transport over a membrane module, whereas the Navier-Stokes equation describes the gas transport in both the feed and perm

Three-branch feature enhancement and fusion network for focal cortical dysplasia lesions segmentation using multimodal imaging.

OBJECTIVE: Conventional multimodal imaging, including MRI and fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), has difficulty in accurately detecting subtle or blurred focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) lesions. Morphometric maps assist localization by highlighting abnormal regions, whereas wavelet-filtered images emphasize texture and edge details. Therefore, we propose a three-branch feature enhancement and fusion network (TBFEF-Net) that integrates conventional multimodal imaging, morphometric maps, and wavelet-filtered images to enhance the accuracy of FCD localization. METHODS: The

A novel ANN-based classification of spike-wave activity in 24-hour EEG recordings in rats using spectrograms: Spike-Wave Discharge Artificial Neural Network (SWAN).

BACKGROUND: Electroencephalographic (EEG) detection of spike-wave discharges (SWDs) is essential for diagnosing absence epilepsy. Automated tools for long-term wearable EEG are needed, but current methods relying on basic signal variability metrics inadequately capture SWD complexity. NEW METHOD: We developed the Spike-Wave discharge Artificial Neural Network (SWAN), a shallow ANN classifier analyzing STFT spectrograms. SWAN addresses two critical dimensions of absence epilepsy: 1) spontaneous SWDs in WAG/Rij rats, and 2) drug-induced SWD transformations mediated by alpha2-adrenoreceptor agon

Deep learning-based approach for accurate detection of fetal QRS complexes in abdominal ECG signals.

Congenital heart defects are the leading cause of mortality related to birth defects, making early monitoring of fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) vital for the detection of abnormal fetal heart rate (FHR) patterns. Accurate fetal QRS complex detection in FECG is crucial for assessing fetal health, including heart rate and the early identification of congenital conditions. This study presents a novel automated framework using a one-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) to detect fetal QRS complexes from abdominal electrocardiogram (AECG) signals, sourced from the PhysioNet Non-Invasiv

Automated Classification of Cervical Spinal Stenosis Using Deep Learning on Computed Tomography Scans.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a computed tomography-based deep learning (DL) model for diagnosing cervical spinal stenosis (CSS). BACKGROUND: Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely used for diagnosing CSS, its inherent limitations, including prolonged scanning time, limited availability in resource-constrained settings, and contraindications for patients with metallic implants, make computed tomography (CT) a critical alternative in specific clinical scenarios. The development of CT-based DL models for CSS detection holds promise in transc

Graph Neural Network Model for Prediction of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Lymph Node Metastasis Using Protein-Protein Interaction Network and 18F-FDG PET/CT Radiomics.

The image texture features obtained from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) images of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have revealed tumor heterogeneity. A combination of genomic data and radiomics may improve the prediction of tumor prognosis. This study aimed to predict NSCLC metastasis using a graph neural network (GNN) obtained by combining a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network based on gene expression data and image texture features. 18F-FDG PET/CT images and RNA sequencing data of 93 patients with NSCLC were acquired from The

Imaging Flow Cytometry and Convolutional Neural Network-Based Classification Enable Discrimination of Hematopoietic and Leukemic Stem Cells in Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogenous blood cancer with a dismal prognosis. It emanates from leukemic stem cells (LSCs) arising from the genetic transformation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). LSCs hold prognostic value, but their molecular and immunophenotypic heterogeneity poses challenges: there is no single marker for identifying all LSCs across AML samples. We hypothesized that imaging flow cytometry (IFC) paired with artificial intelligence-driven image analysis could visually distinguish LSCs from HSCs based solely on morphology. Initially, a seven-color IFC panel was employ

DeepFLAIR: A neural network approach to mitigate signal and contrast loss in temporal lobes at 7 Tesla FLAIR images.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Higher magnetic field strength introduces stronger magnetic field inhomogeneities in the brain, especially within temporal lobes, leading to image artifacts. Particularly, T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images can be affected by these artifacts. Here, we aimed to improve the FLAIR image quality in temporal lobe regions through image processing of multiple contrast images via machine learning using a neural network. METHODS: Thirteen drug-resistant MR-negative epilepsy patients (age 29.2 ± 9.4y, 5 females) were scanned on a 7 T MRI scanner. Magn

Deep learning-based detection of affected body parts in Parkinson's disease and freezing of gait using time-series imaging.

We proposed a deep learning method using a convolutional neural network on time-series (TS) images to detect and differentiate affected body parts in people with Parkinson's disease (PD) and freezing of gait (FOG) during 360° turning tasks. The 360° turning task was performed by 90 participants (60 people with PD [30 freezers and 30 nonfreezers] and 30 age-matched older adults (controls) at their preferred speed. The position and acceleration underwent preprocessing. The analysis was expanded from temporal to visual data using TS imaging methods. According to the PD vs. controls classification

Reduced-Reference Learning for Target Localization in Deep Brain Stimulation.

This work proposes a supervised machine learning method for target localization in deep brain stimulation (DBS). DBS is a recognized treatment for essential tremor. The effects of DBS significantly depend on the precise implantation of electrodes. Recent research on diffusion tensor imaging shows that the optimal target for essential tremor is related to the dentato-rubro-thalamic tract (DRTT), thus DRTT targeting has become a promising direction. The tractography-based targeting is more accurate than conventional ones, but still too complicated for clinical scenarios, where only structural ma

Artificial image objects for classification of breast cancer biomarkers with transcriptome sequencing data and convolutional neural network algorithms.

BACKGROUND: Transcriptome sequencing has been broadly available in clinical studies. However, it remains a challenge to utilize these data effectively for clinical applications due to the high dimension of the data and the highly correlated expression between individual genes. METHODS: We proposed a method to transform RNA sequencing data into artificial image objects (AIOs) and applied convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithms to classify these AIOs. With the AIO technique, we considered each gene as a pixel in an image and its expression level as pixel intensity. Using the GSE96058 (n =

Leveraging Coupled Interaction for Multimodal Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis.

As the population becomes older worldwide, accurate computer-aided diagnosis for Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the early stage has been regarded as a crucial step for neurodegeneration care in recent years. Since it extracts the low-level features from the neuroimaging data, previous methods regarded this computer-aided diagnosis as a classification problem that ignored latent featurewise relation. However, it is known that multiple brain regions in the human brain are anatomically and functionally interlinked according to the current neuroscience perspective. Thus, it is reasonable to assume th
