Level of function mobility scale for nurse-driven early mobilisation in people with acute cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND: There are currently no validated tools that are reliable and easy to use for nurses to assess mobility in people with acute cardiovascular disease in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU). METHODS: A multidisciplinary team at an academic tertiary care centre developed the Level of Function (LOF) Mobility Scale for use in a nurse-driven early progressive mobilisation in the CICU. To determine inter-rater reliability, the prehospital and admission LOF were assessed independently by two CICU nurses. Pairwise comparisons between raters were evaluated using Cohen's kappa statis

Cardiovascular Nursing Practices Following the Transition to End-of-Life Care for Patients with Heart Failure in Japan.

Heart failure patients face unique end-of-life challenges due to unpredictable disease trajectories, yet nursing practices in cardiovascular wards' palliative care practices in Japan remain underexplored. This study clarified the palliative care practices implemented by nurses in cardiovascular wards after the transition of heart failure patients to end-of-life care. Six experienced nurses participated in semistructured interviews. Data were analyzed using qualitative inductive analysis, and 4 key characteristics were identified. First, nurses provided early decision support despite prognostic

Multifactorial intervention with nurse practitioners does not change cardiovascular outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Strict implementation of guidelines directed at multiple targets reduces vascular risk in diabetic patients. Whether this also applies to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is uncertain. To evaluate this, the MASTERPLAN Study randomized 788 patients with CKD (estimated GFR 20-70 ml/min) to receive additional intensive nurse practitioner support (the intervention group) or nephrologist care (the control group). The primary end point was a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death. During a mean follow-up of 4.62 years, modest but significant decreases were foun

Multi-center development and testing of a simulation-based cardiovascular assessment curriculum for advanced practice nurses.

Cardiovascular assessment skills are deficient among advanced practice nursing students, and effective instructional methods to improve assessment skills are needed. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate outcomes of a cardiovascular assessment curriculum for advanced practice nurses at four institutions. Each institution used a one-group pre-to-post-intervention design. Educational interventions included faculty-led, simulation-based case presentations using the Harvey cardiopulmonary patient simulator (CPS), and independent learning sessions using the CPS and a mul

Knowledge, attitudes, treatment practices, and health behaviors of nurses regarding blood cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practice patterns concerning cholesterol and heart disease were evaluated in a stratified, random sample of 206 registered nurses at a major academic medical center in New York City. Virtually all nurses were convinced of the importance of diet in reducing heart disease risk, and most (78%) agreed that nutrition counseling should be their responsibility. Although only 19% reported that they were currently counseling, many more felt prepared to counsel about diet or drug therapy (43%). Nurses who were likely to counsel were those working in general medicine, those who

Diet and nutrition in cardiovascular disease prevention: a scientific statement of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology and the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the European Society of Cardiology.

What we eat is a cornerstone of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, but health professionals may not have a clear understanding of the current evidence-based research to underpin eating habits and recommendations. This study aims to appraise existing evidence-based research on the importance of diet on CVD risk biomarkers, specifically, the effects of dietary patterns, specific foods, and constituents including vitamins/minerals and plant-derived bioactive compounds on CVD risk. Plant-based dietary patterns rich in minimally processed foods, vegetables, and fruits reduce CVD risk, while p

Sexual counselling for individuals with cardiovascular disease and their partners: a consensus document from the American Heart Association and the ESC Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (CCNAP).

After a cardiovascular event, patients and their families often cope with numerous changes in their lives, including dealing with consequences of the disease or its treatment on their daily lives and functioning. Coping poorly with both physical and psychological challenges may lead to impaired quality of life. Sexuality is one aspect of quality of life that is important for many patients and partners that may be adversely affected by a cardiac event. The World Health Organization defines sexual health as '… a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality;

Knowledge, attitude, and practice of Palestinian critical care nurses about hemodynamic instability in patients with cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: Managing hemodynamic instability in critically ill patients due to cardiovascular disease or, in particular, coronary artery disease requires an integrated and responsive approach. The complexity lies in simultaneously addressing the underlying cardiovascular pathology and managing its systemic effects. The complexity described above involves a careful balance of interventions, including fluid and electrolyte management, pharmacological support, and, in some cases, mechanical circulatory support. The dynamic nature of hemodynamic instability necessitates constant vigilance and rapi

A Protocol for Nurse-Practitioner Led Cardiovascular Follow-Up After Pregnancy Complications in a Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Population.

Background: Women who experience pregnancy complications have an increased risk of future cardiovascular disease when compared to their healthy counterparts. Despite recommendations, there is no standardized cardiovascular follow-up in the postpartum period for these women, and the Australian follow-up protocols that have been previously described are research-based. This study proposes a new model of care for a nurse practitioner-led postpartum intervention clinic for women who experience severe hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus requiring medication, severe in

Understanding the Functional Needs of Patients With Cardiovascular Disease Regarding Nursing Robots Using a Kano Survey Scale: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: With population aging and the growing burden of chronic diseases, the number of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in China continues to rise. Nursing robots have been recognized as one potential approach to help alleviate nursing workload. However, patient-centered functional needs with respect to such robots among patients with CVD remain insufficiently explored in China. OBJECTIVE: On the basis of the Kano model, this study aimed to analyze attitudes toward and demand priorities regarding nursing robot functions among patients with CVD. The findings may provide evidence

Cardiovascular disease prevention and management in COVID-19: a clinical consensus statement of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology, the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions, the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions, and the Heart Failure Association of the ESC.

The coronavirus-associated disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed significant challenges due to the complex interplay between SARS-CoV-2 infection and cardiovascular disease. COVID-19 can trigger and exacerbate cardiovascular complications, observed both during the acute phase of infection and in the post-acute phase, with some individuals developing long-term sequelae collectively termed Long COVID. Additionally, reinfection and adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines may contribute to cardiovascular events. This clinical consensus statement, developed by associations of the European Socie
