A gas-chromatographic analysis of vinylidene chloride (1,1-dichloroethylene) is presented. Vinylidene chloride was sampled by adsorbing on activated carbon. It was desorbed with carbon disulfide. The desorption efficiency was 97.2 +/- 1.05 (mean +/- standard error). The analytical column was packed with 10% Apiezon L on acid-washed Chromosorb-P. A case involving a suicidal overdose resulting from the ingestion of 90 tablets (400 mg) of meprobamate is presented. The drug was quantified using a gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector (FID). While the blood level was 204.6 micrograms/ml, the maximum concentration was found in the heart (708 micrograms/g), confirming the cardiac toxicity of meprobamate. Other drugs were not detected.

A method of separation by gas chromatography with a flame ionisation detector was developed for quantifying cocaine and heroin in powders seized by law enforcement. The method was validated by studying parameters of calibration, trueness, precision based on trueness error (or systematic bias) and random error. OBJECTIVE: To develop a rapid method for determination of nicotine and its metabolite cotinine in human hair with capillary gas chromatography with flame ionization detector.
METHODS: The hair sample was digested by 1.5 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution. The nicotine and cotinine in the hair sample were extracted with a mixed solvent of dichloromethane-methanol (3:1). A method is described for the simultaneous determination of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in oyster samples. The organotin compounds were extracted (as chlorides) from oyster homogenates with hydrochloric acid and benzene in the presence of 0.05% tropolone. These compounds were converted into pentyl derivatives with pentyl Grignard reagent and then analysed by capillary gas chromatography with a flame photometric detector equipped with a 393-nm filter.
