AIM: To present a case study of complementary therapy (CT) provision within a community HIV multi-agency service in a Northwest London deprived area.
METHODS: Anonymised routine service data were provided for all clients (n = 1030) August 2010 to October 2012. Face-to-face meetings provided feedback from volunteers (9 CT-using clients and 9 staff).

OBJECTIVES: To re-assess the prevalence and patient characteristics of hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection among hepatitis B patients in inner city London.
METHODS: All hepatitis B patients attending clinics over a 52 months period were tested for HDV antibody. All reactive samples were also tested for anti-HDV IgM and RNA. Genetic deletions and duplications known as copy number variants have been strongly implicated in genetic susceptibility to schizophrenia, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and epilepsy. The occurrence of peptic ulcer increased rapidly in all Western countries from the 19th to the 20th century, attributed to a possible epidemic of Helicobacter pylori, a new pathogenic strain, or a change in host susceptibility. The early trends in hospital admissions for peptic ulcer and dyspepsia in London and New York during the 19th century are reviewed to test these hypotheses.

The sexually abused girls in this study were a sub-sample of a group of girls referred to a Regional Centre for Psychotherapy for the whole of London, North Thames. The clinical importance of the gram-positive anaerobic cocci (GPAC) isolated in 1987 at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, is assessed. An enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for astrovirus type 1 together with immune electronmicroscopy (IEM) was used to type a collection of 162 astroviruses obtained from 1981-93 from children with diarrhoea. The EIA was found to be specific for astrovirus type 1. Astrovirus types 2-4 were typed by IEM. Astrovirus type 1 was the prevalent serotype 107/125 (86%), followed by type 3 (8%), type 4 (6%) and type 2 (1%).
