PURPOSE: To retrospectively evaluate the results of diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) in patients with nanophthalmos.
METHODS: The data on all bilaterally nanophthalmic patients who underwent diode laser CPC in our department between 2004 and 2012 were retrieved and evaluated.
RESULTS: Four patients fulfilled study entry criteria. All 4 were females aged 58, 62, 68, and 74 years. The mean preoperative intraocular pressure of 46±5.7 mm Hg dropped to 16.2±1.5 mm Hg at the final follow-up visit (43.5±16 mo). Visual acuity did not change in 2 patients and slightly worsened in the other 2.

PURPOSE: To objectively measure changes in the human ciliary muscle dimensions in vivo after instillation of topical phenylephrine, a mydriatic and vasodilating agent.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study of 25 healthy young adults was conducted. Measurements of pupil size, accommodation, and ciliary muscle thickness were made both before and 30 min after instillation of 1% proparacaine and 2.5% phenylephrine. Accommodation was measured in three ways: subjectively using a push-up technique and Royal Air Force (RAF) rule, and objectively using both the Grand Seiko autorefractor and PowerRefractor.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the influence of the pupillary diameter, ciliary muscle tone, and room light on nerve fiber layer measurements with the scanning laser polarimeter (GDx).
METHODS: One randomly selected eye of ten normal volunteers was examined with the GDx in a two-day protocol under eight testing conditions (pilocarpine 1%, phenylephrine 10%, tropicamide 1%, or no drops with room lights on or off).
