Fluctuations of dissociation and inner tension during inpatient dialectical behavior therapy: associations with self-injury and suicidal ideation.

BACKGROUND: In Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), monitoring inner tension and state dissociation is considered helpful for understanding a patient’s affective and behavioral responses, especially regarding self-harming behaviors. This study aims to investigate how potentially aversive internal states including dissociation, inner tension and fluctuations of tension, i.e. affective instability, during the initial phase of inpatient DBT relate to self-injury, suicidal ideation, and symptom reduction. METHODS: 41 patients with personality disorder (borderline or combined), undergoing an 8-week

Adult ADHD presentations in an Indian tertiary care setting: Gender perspectives.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neuro-developmental disorder with skewed gender ratio presentations. Women are more likely to present with internalizing disorders, often diagnosed with comorbid disorders than adult-ADHD. One hundred and one treatment-seeking adults (18-45 years; 78 men, 23 women), were recruited at a Tertiary Health Care (THC) and assessed on ASRS, executive functions, emotion-regulation, an Indian social-cognition battery, and self-report of functioning. Gender differences were examined using the Mann-Whitney U-test and Independent samples t-test. The mea

Depression increases the risk of contracting genital herpes and genital wart in U.S. adults: A cross-sectional analysis.

Depression is associated with a higher prevalence of self-reported risky sexual behaviors, potentially increasing susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, epidemiological evidence linking depression to genital herpes or genital warts remains limited. This cross-sectional analysis utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the validated Patient Health Questionnaire-9. STIs were self-reported via audio computer-assisted self-interview in private rooms at the Mobile Examination Center. Multivariable lo

Multifunctional Self-Healing Carbon Dot-Gelatin Bioadhesive: Improved Tissue Adhesion with Simultaneous Drug Delivery, Optical Tracking, and Photoactivated Sterilization.

Bioadhesives with all-inclusive properties for simultaneous strong and robust adhesion, cohesion, tracking, drug delivery, self-sterilization, and nontoxicity are still farfetched. Herein, a carbon dot (CD) is made to infuse each of the above-desired aspects with gelatin, an inexpensive edible protein. The CD derived through controlled hydrothermal pyrolysis of dopamine and terephthaldehyde retained -NH2, -OH, -COOH, and, most importantly, -CHO functionality on the CD surface for efficient skin adhesion and cross-linking. Facile fabrication of CD-gelatin bioadhesive through covalent conjugatio

The health-related quality of life in hyperhidrosis and co-morbidities.

PURPOSE: Hyperhidrosis has been associated with a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The role of common confounding factors of this association such as stress and socioeconomic status, however, remain largely unexplored, and may affect the management strategy for hyperhidrosis. Therefore, the study objective was to compare the HRQoL in individuals with and without hyperhidrosis while adjusting for confounders. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, data on the HRQoL measured by the short-form-12 questionnaire and self-reported hyperhidrosis were collected from the Danish Bl

Potential Help-Seeking Behaviors Associated with Better Self-Rated Health among Rural Older Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Help-seeking behaviors (HSB) for mild symptoms vary because of differences in health care resources and patients' backgrounds. Potential HSBs for lay and professional care use are related to patients' health conditions. However, there is a lack of evidence of the relation between them. This study examined the relation between patients' potential HSBs and self-rated health (SRH). The cross-sectional study involved 169 patients, aged above 65 years, who visited a Japanese rural clinic. A validated checklist was used to assess potential patients' HSBs. A chi-square test and logistic regression we

Adolescents' Understanding of Opioid-Induced Euphoria Measures and Proposed Measurement Revisions.

Prescription opioid misuse is an unintended consequence of acute pain management. Opioid-induced euphoria (OIE) with first therapeutic opioid exposure may influence opioid misuse. OIE is not assessed in clinical care and self-report measures of OIE have not been validated in adolescents. We (1) determined adolescents' ability to understand existing self-reported OIE measures, (2) revised measures for better understanding by this population, and (3) established initial content validity of revised measures with adolescents. Using runner's euphoria to simulate OIE in Study 1, 29 adolescents' (14

Efficacy of web-assisted self-help for parents of children with ADHD (WASH) - a three-arm randomized trial under field/routine care conditions in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Current clinical guidelines recommend parent management training (PMT) in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). However, (a) a lack of supply and (b) structural barriers to attending and continuing face-to-face PMT restrict the access to this training. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of online PMT in decreasing ADHD symptoms and oppositional behavior problems and to evaluate the effects of additional telephone-based support of the parents. METHODS: The target sample size is n = 495 ch
