Role of Imaging in Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome: From Pathomechanics to Patient-Specific Management.

ABSTRACT: Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome is a significant morphology-driven hip disorder in which abnormal osseous geometry and dynamic hip motion lead to intra- and/or extra-articular mechanical conflict. Repetitive impingement induces chondrolabral injuries, promoting early joint degeneration and representing a major pathway to osteoarthritis. Although cam and pincer morphologies and femoral torsion abnormalities are commonly observed on imaging, these features alone are not sufficient for diagnosis, requiring integration with clinical evaluation. ABSTRACT: Imaging plays a pivotal ro

Tibial diaphyseal malunion: A problem-oriented approach to assessment and correction.

Tibial shaft fractures are the most common long bone injuries, and malunion remains a significant complication despite advances in fixation. Tibial diaphyseal malunion is typically multiplanar, involving coronal, sagittal, rotational, and translational deformities with limb shortening, leading to altered biomechanics, abnormal joint loading, and potential degenerative changes. Biomechanical studies suggest that coronal deformity exceeding 5°, rotational deformity ≥10° and shortening ≥10 mm also increase the risk of joint degeneration, although long-term clinical correlations remain variable. Translating Data Into Clinical Tools: An Integrative Strategy for Precision Biomarker Identification in Soft Tissue Sarcoma Diagnosis and Prognosis.

OBJECTIVES: Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) are rare, heterogeneous cancers with over 70 subtypes, often diagnosed late due to diagnostic complexity, leading to poor outcomes. We aimed to identify and validate novel transcriptomic biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of STS using an integrative machine learning and bioinformatics framework applied to publicly available cohorts. METHODS: RNA-seq and clinical data from 261 STS samples were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). A multi-step analytical pipeline was implemented, including differential expression analysis, functional enri

Quantifying the Viscoelastic Properties of Pancreatic Tissue: A Comparative Study of Human, Porcine and Engineered Hydrogel.

Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is among the most complex abdominal procedures, with a leak from the pancreatic anastomosis (postoperative pancreatic fistula, POPF) continuing to be a major source of morbidity and mortality. The mechanical characteristics of the pancreas, particularly tissue texture, are closely linked to POPF risk, yet remain poorly defined, limiting the accuracy of currently available training models. This study sought to quantify the viscoelastic behaviour of human pancreatic tissue and to compare it with porcine pancreas and a commercially available synthetic substitute. Fresh

Multiparametric US and MRI Features of Femoral Myxoid Liposarcoma-Case Report and Literature Review.

Background/Objectives: Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) is a malignant soft-tissue tumor and the second-most common subtype of liposarcoma, often occurring in the lower limbs of middle-aged patients. Case Presentation: A 38-year-old male patient presented to the ultrasound outpatient clinic with a large mass in the right femoral region. It has been present for 15 years and mostly stable in size. Over the last two years, it has been slowly increasing in size, more rapidly in the previous 10 months, and has started to limit his range of motion. After multiparametric ultrasound and magnetic resonance ima

Integrated Clinical Workflow for Preoperative Planning and Resection of Giant Iliofemoral Heterotopic Ossification Using Three-Dimensional Technologies.

Background/Objectives: Neurogenic heterotopic ossification (HO) is an abnormal formation of lamellar bone in soft tissues, frequently developing near major joints in patients with spinal cord injury. While imaging provides valuable diagnostic insights, large and anatomically complex HO often requires advanced preoperative planning to minimize surgical risks. This study presents the development and clinical application of a structured six-stage workflow integrating three-dimensional (3D) technologies for the preoperative planning and surgical resection of giant iliofemoral HO. Validation of an Automated ASPECTS Software via a Multi-Reader Multi-Case Clinical Reader Study.

BACKGROUND: Rapid, accurate detection of early ischemic changes (EIC) on non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) is critical for the triage and treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients, yet NCCT interpretation remains challenging due to low soft-tissue contrast and inter-reader variability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study validates StrokeSENS ASPECTS, a fully automated AI-based software tool designed to aid clinicians in grading region-level EIC. A fully crossed multi-reader multi-case (MRMC) clinical reader study was conducted with eight clinicians who independently scored 100 NCC

Point-of-care ultrasound for the evaluation of dental abscesses in the pediatric emergency department.

BACKGROUND: Facial cellulitis is a common presentation at pediatric emergency departments. Prompt diagnosis of dentoalveolar abscesses is crucial for initiating appropriate treatment and minimizing morbidity. While imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and a panoramic X-ray are available, they are not often used for pediatric patients given the known risks of exposure to radiation and the need for sedation. METHODS: We conducted a prospective diagnostic accuracy study at a tertiary pediatric emergency department to evaluate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS, index test) for diagno

Revisiting the enigma of a large symptomatic peritoneal loose body: a case report and critical literature review.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Peritoneal loose bodies (PLBs), also known as "peritoneal mice," are rare calcified structures found in the peritoneal cavity. Smaller PLBs are usually asymptomatic, while larger PLBs can sometimes lead to abdominal discomfort, urinary retention, or intestinal obstruction. Diagnostic imaging, particularly computed tomography scanning, identifies these centrally calcified soft tissue masses. CASE PRESENTATION: A 55-year-old Indo-Aryan man with chronic constipation presented with signs of intestinal obstruction. Initial imaging suggested a mesenteric mass, leading t

Retroperitoneal Fibrosis Presenting With Duodenal Obstruction: A Fatal Case of Corticosteroid-Resistant Disease.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a fibro-inflammatory condition characterised by the development of dense tissue within the retroperitoneum, which may result in the compression of adjacent structures. We report the case of a 69-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer who initially presented with right-sided hydronephrosis. Cross-sectional imaging demonstrated retroperitoneal soft tissue encasing the ureters, consistent with retroperitoneal fibrosis. She underwent unilateral ureteric stenting followed by bilateral nephrostomy insertion and was commenced on corticosteroid therapy. Following re

Anterior cervical abscess caused by migration of an ingested fish bone in a child: A case report.

Migration of an ingested fish bone beyond the esophageal wall is an exceptionally rare complication in children and may result in deep neck infections requiring urgent surgical management. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) plays a pivotal role in establishing the diagnosis and guiding treatment. A previously healthy 9-year-old boy presented with a progressively enlarging anterior cervical swelling associated with dysphagia and odynophagia 15 days after accidental fish bone ingestion. Clinical examination revealed a tender inflammatory cervical mass, while laboratory tests demonstrated

Recurrent Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Palate: A Case Report.

Background: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign salivary-gland neoplasm and frequently affects the minor salivary glands of the palate. Although surgical excision is generally curative, incomplete encapsulation, pseudopod-like extensions, and microscopic tumor deposits may contribute to recurrence, which can occur many years after initial treatment. Recurrent palatal pleomorphic adenoma is uncommon and may present diagnostic and reconstructive challenges. Case Presentation: A 64-year-old man was referred with a painless, slowly enlarging recurrent mass of the right posterior hard pal

A multi-epitope approach for development of a universal vaccine against leptospirosis.

INTRODUCTION: Leptospira, a zoonotic pathogen, poses a significant public health threat, causing morbidity and mortality in both humans and animals. Although several bacterin and recombinant vaccines targeting specific serovars have been developed, most provide short-term, serovar-restricted protection and do not consistently induce sterilizing immunity or broad cross-serovar coverage. MATERIALS: To address this challenge, we employed comparative pan-genomic analysis and reverse vaccinology to identify conserved potential vaccine candidates (PVCs) and designed a multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) in
