BACKGROUND: Sucrose allyl ether (SAE) containing hemostatic drugs and a photoinitiator was established to treat mild postpartum hemorrhage or long-term continuous abnormal uterine bleeding in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) using a photopolymerization method.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Real-time infrared spectroscopy and rheological experiments showed that the SAE monomer with shear-thinning characteristics could polymerize rapidly into a transparent membrane. BACKGROUND: Bile duct stones (BDS) are usually removed via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or, if ERCP remains unsuccessful, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiodrainage (PTCD). However, PTCD provides limited access to large BDSs. We analyzed a modified approach of PTCD for percutaneous therapy of BDS.
METHODS: We used a modified approach of PTCD with a 13-french (Fr) hemostasis introducer for transhepatic access to BDS. Short-wired balloon or basket catheter were applied for safe removal of BDS. Patient characteristics, effectiveness, and complications were analyzed.

Radiowave hemostasis was used for endoscopic stopping of bleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers in 96 patients. Primary single radiowave hemostasis permitted to achieve stable effect in 80 (83.3%) patients. After repeated radiowave hemostasis bleeding was completely stopped in 14 (14.6%) patients, 2 (2.1%) patients of this group underwent urgent surgery. On day 10 after radiowave hemostasis 95% of mucosal defects epithialized.
