Robotic-assisted latissimus dorsi muscle flap for autologous chest reconstruction in poland syndrome.

BACKGROUND: As chest reconstructions in Poland syndrome are performed for patients at young ages, patients are generally concerned about conspicuous scars. Meanwhile, a robotic-assisted latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle harvest with inconspicuous scars has been performed for autologous breast reconstruction. As our experience with robotic-assisted LD flap harvest has increased over the years, we have made improvements in surgical techniques to optimize results. The purpose of this study was to introduce and identify the role of the refined robotic-assisted LD muscle flap harvest technique in autolo

Robot-Assisted Surgery for Noncancerous Gynecologic Conditions: ACOG COMMITTEE OPINION, Number 810.

For noncancerous conditions, such as hysterectomy, a minimally invasive approach to gynecologic surgery has well-documented advantages-including faster return to normal activities, decreased length of stay, and better quality of life-compared with an abdominal approach. Although the quality of data for robot-assisted surgery is still low to moderate, the use of robot-assisted surgery has rapidly increased since its approval, which highlights the need to develop effective and thoughtful strategies for its implementation. Reporting of adverse events currently is voluntary and nonstandardized; th

Endoscopic Management of Chyluria Caused by Pyelolymphatic Fistula After Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty.

Background: Chyluria is a rare diagnosis classically associated with milky-appearing urine. It involves the leakage of chyle into the urinary tract. Although the most common cause of chyluria worldwide is infectious in nature, other noninfectious etiologies have been described. Classically chyluria resolves spontaneously or with conservative management. Surgical treatments have been described but are not often required. We present a case of iatrogenic pyelolymphatic fistula after robot-assisted laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty that was treated with endoscopic electrocautery of the fistulou

A Comparison of Perioperative Outcomes Between Single-port and Multiport Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy.

Single-port (SP) robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) appears to be a safe and feasible approach for radical prostatectomy, but no prior studies have compared SP-RALP to a multiport (MP) platform. Using retrospective data from a single-center tertiary institution we compare 50 consecutive SP-RALP patients (da Vinci SP) to a contemporary cohort of 113 patients who underwent MP-RALP (da Vinci Xi). We found no significant differences in surgical or total operating room time. Pain scores were measured on a scale from 0 to 10. There were more pain-free patients on postoperative day 1 (1

Ureteral Reimplantation via Robotic Nontransecting Side-to-Side Anastomosis for Distal Ureteral Stricture.

Objective: To describe a novel technique of ureteral reimplantation through robotic nontransecting side-to-side anastomosis. Although the standard approach to ureteroneocystostomy has a high rate of success, it involves transection of the ureter that may impair vascularity and contribute to recurrent strictures. Our method seeks to maximally preserve distal ureteral blood flow that may reduce this risk. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a multi-institutional ureteral reconstruction database to identify patients who underwent this operation between 2014 and 2018, analyzing peri

[A Case of Ipsilateral Multifocal Renal Cell Carcinoma Treated with Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy].

A 55-year-old male was referred to our hospital for left lower back pain. Computer tomography suggested a left ureteral stone and two left renal tumors at ventral and lateral sites. The ventral tumor measured 7 mm, and it showed intense early enhancement. On the other hand, the lateral tumor measured 22 mm, and it was enhanced weakly. We performed a single-stage robot-assisted partial nephrectomy, because he had chronic renal insufficiency and the two tumors appeared to be different types of renal cell carcinoma. Pathological examination revealed the ventral tumor was clear cell renal cell car

Blocks World of Touch: Exploiting the Advantages of All-Around Finger Sensing in Robot Grasping.

Tactile sensing is an essential capability for a robot to perform manipulation tasks in cluttered environments. While larger areas can be assessed instantly with cameras, Lidars, and other remote sensors, tactile sensors can reduce their measurement uncertainties and gain information of the physical interactions between the objects and the robot end-effector that is not accessible via remote sensors. In this paper, we introduce the novel tactile sensor GelTip that has the shape of a finger and can sense contacts on any location of its surface. This contrasts to other camera-based tactile senso

Design of a robot-assisted system for transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar surgeries: study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar surgeries (PELS) for lumbar disc herniation and spinal stenosis are growing in popularity. However, there are some problems in the establishment of the working channel and foraminoplasty such as nerve and blood vessel injuries, more radiation exposure, and steeper learning curve. Rapid technological advancements have allowed robotic technology to assist surgeons in improving the accuracy and safety of surgeries. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a robot-assisted system for transforaminal PELS, which can provide navigati

[Robotic Assisted Proctocolectomy with Ileal Pouch-Anal Anastomosis in a Case of Suspected Hereditary Polyposis].

BACKGROUND: Various forms of hereditary polyposis have been described in the literature. Classical familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a rare, autosomal dominantly inherited disease which is caused by a germline mutation in the adenomatous polyposis coli gene (APC). Patients with this diagnosis successively develop multiple polyps of the colon. Left untreated, FAP almost inevitably leads to malignant transformation. INDICATION: We present the case of a 37-year-old patient with histologically confirmed, stenotic adenocarcinoma of the descending colon and an initially suspected hereditary p

Outcomes of transoral laser microsurgery and transoral robotic surgery in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

OBJECTIVE: Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) has evolved to a standard therapy modality for oropharyngeal carcinoma, especially in T1/ T2 tumors involving the base of the tongue due to its advantages compared with open surgery. However, knowledge about its benefits compared with transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) are scarce. This study compares oncological and functional results of TLM or TORS in the treatment of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). METHODS: This retrospective analysis comprises all patients with OPSCC treated with TLM (n = 30) or TORS (n = 24) between April 2003 and

Dynamic Augmentation of Left Ventricle and Mitral Valve Function With an Implantable Soft Robotic Device.

Left ventricular failure is strongly associated with secondary mitral valve regurgitation. Implantable soft robotic devices are an emerging technology that enables augmentation of a native function of a target tissue. We demonstrate the ability of a novel soft robotic ventricular assist device to dynamically augment left ventricular contraction, provide native pulsatile flow, simultaneously reshape the mitral valve apparatus, and eliminate the associated regurgitation in an Short-term large animal model of acute left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Robot-based assistance in middle ear surgery and cochlear implantation: first clinical report.

PURPOSE: Middle ear surgery may benefit from robot-based assistance to hold micro-instruments or an endoscope. However, the surgical gesture performed by one hand may perturb surgeons accustomed to two-handed surgery. A robot-based holder may combine the benefits from endoscopic exposure and a two-handed technique. Furthermore, tremor suppression and accurate tool control might help the surgeon during critical surgical steps. The goal of this work was to study the safety of an otological robot-based assistant under clinical conditions in a limited series of patients. METHODS: The RobOtol syst

Robotic versus laparoscopic approach to treat symptomatic achalasia: systematic review with meta-analysis.

Minimally invasive Heller myotomy is considered the gold standard surgical approach for symptomatic achalasia because it is a safe and effective procedure. Over the last years, several studies comparing the laparoscopic and robotic approach for Heller myotomy have been published. Although the robotic approach appears to have some advantages over standard laparoscopy, data on this topic are still controversial and no definite conclusions have been drawn. This metanalysis has been designed to systematically evaluate and compare the effectiveness and safety of the robot-assisted Heller myotomy as
