BACKGROUND: Residual disease at the bronchial margin after resection of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) adversely affects survival. To ensure an R0 resection, thoracic surgeons commonly use intraoperative frozen section analysis of the bronchial margin. STUDY OBJECTIVES: To examine the characteristics of peripheral lung adenocarcinomas diagnosed by open lung or video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) biopsy.
DESIGN: We used retrospective analysis to compare tumor stage, pleural involvement, central tumor fibrosis, and the number of bronchi or vessels involved with tumors of small peripheral lung adenocarcinomas diagnosed by bronchoscopic biopsy.
PATIENTS: Subjects had lung adenocarcinomas diagnosed by open lung or VATS (n=22) and those diagnosed by bronchoscopic biopsy (n=22), which were matched by tumor size.

Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication has replaced open approaches for refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in many major medical centers. Here we report our preliminary results of the Belsey Mark IV antireflux procedure performed by video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS-Belsey). Fifteen patients underwent VATS-Belsey. The indications for surgery included GERD refractory to medical therapy (n=10), achalasia (n=2), diffuse esophageal spasms (n=1), epiphrenic esophageal diverticulum (n=1), and paraesophageal hernia (n=1). More attention should be paid to the deviations between the actual diameter of the rhexis reference circle which projected by the Image-guided systems and its intended size, and assess the influence of ocular biometric parameters on the deviation. In this study, the Callisto eye image-guided system was employed to generate a digital rhexis reference circle (rhexis overlay) set at an intended diameter of 6 mm and a screenshot of the video was taken at the end of the cataract surgery, then to compare the deviation between the observed rhexis overlay diameter (ROD) and the optic diameter (6 mm).

INTRODUCTION: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a rare malignancy of primary endobronchial lesions in children. Early diagnosis is crucial for the disease, but it is often misdiagnosed as asthma or lung infection. Chest computed tomography and bronchoscopy are the most important diagnostic tools. Surgical resection is the current treatment of choice for low-grade MEC. In the past, lobectomy, sleeve lobectomy, or segmental resections were the most standard surgeries.
