A submerged hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated implant placed into a fresh extraction socket in conjunction with a nonresorbable HA graft was harvested after 6 years of unloaded healing. The implant and surrounding bone were processed for histologic analysis. The HA coating appeared to be stable and homogenous. An excellent bone-to-implant contact could be found along the entire implant length. No signs of HA resorption or detachment were found. PURPOSE: To evaluate a simple method of antegrade ureteral stent insertion allowing optimal positioning of the stent without the use of a retraction string.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Seventeen stents were placed in sixteen patients with ureteral obstruction. Materials included a long vascular introducer sheath and radiopaque markers on the tips of both the sheath and the pusher catheter. For optimal positioning of the proximal pigtail in the renal pelvis, the distal end of the sheath was used to hold a large portion of the pigtail in the extended state prior to its deployment.

We present a new method of treatment of chondral defects of the knee with the usage of carbon fibers. The prospective study describes experience with carbon fibers used as scaffolds in the drilled lesions to enhance ingrowth of regenerative tissue. Six patients with buccal gingival recession (4 to 6 mm) were treated by means of the guided tissue regeneration technique utilizing a polyglycolactic membrane (Vicryl). Three months following the first surgical procedure, all sites were reentered to evaluate newly formed tissue above the exposed root. Complete root coverage was obtained in four out of six patients; 0.5 and 1.5 mm of recession were still present in the remaining two.

The use of varicose-ectatically altered veins in bypass surgery is unsatisfactory due to unfavorable flow dynamics and high closure rates. To date surgical repair possibilities to improve the flow profile of autologous vein bypasses have been limited.
