An eight-month-old Labrador retriever was presented with a grade IIIb open shearing injury of the left tarsus. Acute severe surgical site infection developed 2 days after pan-tarsal arthrodesis, resulting in wound dehiscence. Vacuum-assisted wound therapy was carried out for 12 days to treat an extensive full-thickness soft tissue defect with exposure of metal implants. New granulation tissue formation covering most of the defect was achieved by day 10 of this therapy. Epithelialization was achieved by second intention healing with open wound management. We report the case of a 44-year-old survivor of a hypoxic cardiac arrest who repeatedly developed relentless myoclonic jerks on attempted discontinuation of his propofol infusion. In this multi-center, naturalistic study, the effectiveness of naltrexone maintenance combined with the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) was investigated in detoxified, opioid-dependent patients (N=272). Patients were recruited from methadone maintenance programs. With intention-to-treat analysis, 10 months of treatment yielded abstinence rates of 28% and 32% at 10 and 16 months after detoxification. In this article, we report an unusual case of sudden death arising from a ruptured basilar artery aneurysm during a suicide attempt. A 72-year-old male was found dead in his home after sustaining superficial flesh gunshot wounds (entrace and exit) involving the forehead. We describe the results and the complications encountered in 69 lensectomies performed via a limbal approach with the Ocutome vitrectomy instrument, in which it was the intention at surgery to maintain the integrity of the posterior capsule. This study identified and characterised 1207 emergency department presentations related to gabapentinoid overdose in Victoria from 2009-2010 to 2023-2024. Presentation rates increased substantially since 2009-2010, and about half (49.5%; 597/1207) of all presentations were classified as intentional. Co-ingestants were common, although 36.2% (437/1207) of presentations were reported to involve gabapentinoids alone.

This article explores the potential iatrogenic impact of institutional care on patients suffering from anorexia nervosa, based on a perspective drawn from the human and social sciences. In particular, it highlights the social mechanisms - such as the collision of intentions, pathological emulation, stigmatization and identity dedifferentiation - that can aggravate pathology in the hospital setting. Four recommendations are put forward for rethinking care, favoring a more holistic and less iatrogenic approach.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is distinct from other cancers of the head and neck in biology, epidemiology, histology, natural history, and response to treatment. Radiation therapy is an essential component of curative-intent of non-disseminated disease and the association of chemotherapy improves the rates of survival. In the case of metastatic disease stages, treatment requires platinum/gemcitabine-based chemotherapy and patients may achieve a long survival time.

A 31-year-old multipara was diagnosed with tracheal stenosis that developed after intubation after an intentional benzodiazepine overdose in the first trimester of pregnancy. Tracheal dilations only temporarily improved her dyspnea at rest. A definitive repair by tracheal resection and reconstruction was performed at 28 weeks' gestation. Her symptoms resolved, and she delivered vaginally at 36 weeks' gestation after spontaneous labor.
