The suggested role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of heart failure is largely based on utilizing left heart failure models. Traditional techniques to lighten discolored endodontically treated teeth have used bleaching materials that had to be applied and directly monitored by dentists. These bleaching techniques have been associated with cervical resorption in nonvital teeth, and the treatment outcome is often difficult to predict. This article describes the use of nightguard bleaching to obtain an esthetic result for a restored nonvital tooth that had been treated with limited success with traditional office-based bleaching procedures.

FLIM quantitatively differentiated between nitroxide states of the cytoplasm-localized probe imaged by TIRF, monitoring nitroxide depletion by hydrogen peroxide; eluding incorrect interpretation if only fluorescence intensity is considered.

The reactions of vinylidencyclopropanes 1 with diphenyl diselenide 2 in the presence of AIBN produced the corresponding products 4 or 5 in moderate to good yields under mild conditions. The transformation of 4 to the corresponding methylenecyclopropanes 6 was achieved by treatment with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in toluene, and these were further transformed to the corresponding naphthalene derivatives 7 by treatment with 30 mol % of TfOH in dichloromethane.

An isogenic katE mutant derived from virulent Brucella melitensis 16M displays hypersensitivity to hydrogen peroxide in disk sensitivity assays but retains the capacity to colonize pregnant goats and induce abortion. These experimental findings indicate that although the sole periplasmic catalase of Brucella melitensis functions as an antioxidant, this enzyme does not play a critical role in virulence in the natural host.

This paper deals with the synthesis of a novel series of amphiphilic glycosylated spin-traps derived from alpha-Phenyl-N-tert-butyl nitrone (PBN) and an initial characterization of their anti-caspase-3 activity. Preliminary investigation of their anti-apoptosis effect showed they dramatically inhibit the activity of caspase-3 in cultured neuronal cells following induction of apoptosis by hydrogen peroxide.

Longstanding compensatory adaptive response to increased free radical oxidation and to unfavorable climate factors is higher superoxide dismutase and catalase and changes in protein metabolism. Lack of C and E vitamins in miners results from increased utilization due to strain of antioxidant defence mechanisms.

Effectivity of detoxic preparation reamberin at complex treatment of the patients with acuting of chronic cholecystitis combined with chronic pancreatitis on background of HCV-infection was detected. Chronic inflammatory diseases of the prostate are accompanied by the accumulation of active oxygen forms and the activation of biopolymer peroxidation. The increased concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and the decreased activity of antioxidant enzymes in the ejaculate of patients with chronic abacterial prostatitis are attended by spermatozoon defects. It is suggested that correction of the metabolism of active oxygen forms in patients with chronic abacterial prostatitis has a positive effect.

Criteria for the evaluation of the plasmocoagulase activity of natural isolates and mutant strains of the causative agents of glanders and melioidosis were worked out, which made it possible to subdivide them by this sign into pathogens with high, moderate and low activity. Plasmocoagulase produced by pathogenic Burkholderia was shown to be a thermolabile enzyme, comparatively stable with respect to the action of such chemico-biological agents as hydrogen peroxide and chloramine.

Diminution of reperfusion and re-oxygenation lesions is an important task in the treatment of patients with severe injury and blood loss. From this standpoint the influence of perforan on the condition of the oxidant-antioxidant system was studied in patients with severe combined trauma. The application of perftoran in the early post-trauma period was found to intensify the processes of lipid peroxidation and, simultaneously, to normalize the parameters of the antioxidant-protection system.

Homeostasis parameters, level of endotoxicosis, free radical lipid peroxidation, and antiradical defense were studied in young children administered laser exposures and antioxidants unithiol and vitamin E within the protocol of intensive case for pyoinflammatory diseases. The patients were divided into three groups with different protocols of treatment. Clinical and biochemical findings indicate the efficacy of laser therapy and antioxidants.

The intravenous injection of an alcoholic plasma extract to mice after the combined exposure to radiation and heat decreases lethality, restores the investigation-and-orientation activities and oxygen consumption, favors the growth of body mass and healing of burns. The antioxidant effect of the extract manifests itself by the decreased rate of formation of lipid peroxidation products in the liver and the suppressed spontaneous and latex-induced chemiluminescence of neutrophils.
