Patients receiving different types of adequate care for fatal neoplasms were compared by an assessment of their mood and opinions. 78% had spoken of dying, and, although 56% had some unhappiness and anxiety, many were not distressed. Most aspects of care were approved of with no consistant difference in ratings between acute hospital wards and a Foundation Home. Patients were least depressed and anxious at a hospice and preferred the more frank communication available there. Inpatients were slightly less troubled than outpatients who nevertheless praised this management.

OBJECTIVE: In this study Diagnostic Interview Schedule for Children (DISC-C) and clinicians' discharge diagnoses, as well as clinicians' admission and discharge diagnoses were compared.
METHOD: Patients (N = 163) ages 12 to 16 were interviewed with the DISC-C during the first month of admission. The frequencies for different diagnoses by DISC-C and by clinicians at the time of admission and discharge were tabulated. Kappa coefficients were obtained from cross-tabulated frequencies of DISC and clinicians' discharge diagnoses.

The Psychiatric Consultation Service at Massachusetts General Hospital sees medical and surgical inpatients with comorbid psychiatric symptoms and conditions. During their twice-weekly rounds, Dr Stern and other members of the Consultation Service discuss diagnosis and management of hospitalized patients with complex medical or surgical problems who also demonstrate psychiatric symptoms or conditions. These discussions have given rise to rounds reports that will prove useful for clinicians practicing at the interface of medicine and psychiatry.

We present a novel case of laughter induction that was noted to terminate an episode of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in a 10 year old girl who presented to a large metropolitan emergency department. BACKGROUND: The number of elderly people persons suffering from dizziness is substantial, and dizziness is a risk factor for falls and fractures. Fall-related fractures represent a major public health issue. Longitudinal studies can help find ways of predicting fall-related fractures among frail elderly persons with multisensory dizziness.
