Surgical Outcomes and Complication Profile of Cataract Surgery in Eyes With Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background and aim Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS) substantially elevates the technical complexity of cataract surgery through its twin mechanisms of restricted pupillary dilation and progressive zonular weakness. This study aimed to document the intraoperative complication spectrum and postoperative visual rehabilitation following small incision cataract surgery (SICS) with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in eyes with concurrent PXS and to identify preoperative predictors of adverse surgical outcomes. Methods This prospective observational study enrolled 50 consecutive eyes of 50 patient

Visual outcome after monocular implantation of extended depth of focus intraocular lens in a patient with iridodialysis: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Iridodialysis, the separation of the iris root from the ciliary body, typically results from trauma and can lead to significant visual impairment. This case report is novel as it demonstrates the successful management of iridodialysis using an extended depth of focus intraocular lens in a patient with a slightly irregular pupil. CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old Hispanic man presented with reduced vision and pain in his right eye following blunt trauma from a nail at work. Examination revealed a small temporal corneal stromal scar, traumatic posterior subcapsular cataract, two infe

Posterior capsulorhexis combined with optic buttonholing: an alternative to standard in-the-bag implantation of sharp-edged intraocular lenses? A critical analysis of 1000 consecutive cases.

BACKGROUND: Current after-cataract prevention relies on optimizing the natural barrier effect of the optic rim against lens epithelial cell (LEC) migration. However, deficiencies in circumferential capsular bag closure caused by the intraocular lens (IOL) haptic or delayed secondary re-division of the fused capsules by Soemmering s ring formation lead to primary or secondary barrier failure. Consequently, surprisingly high posterior laser capsulotomy rates have been reported long-term, even with optimal capsular surgery and the most widespread hydrophobic acrylic IOLs, considered to be the mos

[Heparin Surface-Modified Poly(methylmethacrylate) and Foldable Hydrophobic Acrylic Intraocular Lenses in Cataract Patients with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and CMV-Retinitis].

BACKGROUND: In HIV-positive patients with necrotising retinitis, well-tolerated lens material as well as minimal invasive surgery to avoid postoperative complications are imperative. Heparin surface-modified PMMA-IOLs as well as acrylic IOLs are associated with less postoperative inflammation than conventional intraocular lenses. METHODS: In this randomised prospective clinical trial 18 patients received 7 HSM-IOLs through a self-sealing scleral tunnel and 11 foldable Acrysof-IOLs through a self-sealing limbal tunnel incision by the same surgeon. 7 of the 18 eyes were silicone oil-filled befo
