The response of bone mass to long-term treatment with estrogen and progesterone in patients with complete androgen-insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is unknown. In recent years, tamoxifen therapy for breast carcinoma has been associated with endometrial carcinoma with increasing frequency. We describe 10 cases of this association as well as 12 cases of endometrial carcinoma after therapy with synthetic gestagens. All but one of the 22 carcinomas we describe here were of the mucinous or clear cell type, and arose in atrophic endometria containing foci of mucinous (endocervical) and clear cell metaplasia. The study of blood coagulability in the coarse of combination (77 cases) and surgical (17 cases) treatment of endometrial carcinoma showed that surgery is followed by an increased plasma tolerance to heparin, a raised fibrinogen level and a lowered fibrinolytic activity. Therefore, surgery promotes blood coagulability, thus increasing the risk of thromboembolic complications in endometrial cancer patients in postoperative period. Preoperative hormonotherapy seems to contribute to this risk since it increases blood coagulability and delays its normalization in postoperative period.

The estrogenic activity of various 19-norprogestin derivatives has been identified by several laboratories.
