Sustainable four-dimensional cardiac CT: Minimizing data storage via reduced matrix size with optimized reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: The increasing volume of four-dimensional cardiac CT data complicates transcatheter aortic valve repair (TAVR) planning, particularly regarding data storage. This study evaluates a modified 256 × 256 reconstruction method for TAVR-CT that reduces storage requirements while maintaining aortic valve measurement accuracy. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 75 TAVR-CT scans obtained using the dual-source energy-integrating detector CT. The modified 256 × 256 reconstruction used a sharper Bv44 kernel (iterative construction strength 4) and narrowed the field of view t

A comparison of an integrated and image-only deep learning model for predicting the disappearance of indeterminate pulmonary nodules.

BACKGROUND: Indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPNs) require follow-up CT to assess potential growth; however, benign nodules may disappear. Accurately predicting whether IPNs will resolve is a challenge for radiologists. Therefore, we aim to utilize deep-learning (DL) methods to predict the disappearance of IPNs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study utilized data from the Dutch-Belgian Randomized Lung Cancer Screening Trial (NELSON) and Imaging in Lifelines (ImaLife) cohort. Participants underwent follow-up CT to determine the evolution of baseline IPNs. The NELSON data was used for

DECTGoutSys: Reducing False Positive Gout Diagnoses via a Machine Vision Pipeline for Crystal Tophi Identification+Classification in Dual-Energy Computed Tomography (DECT).

Gout is the world's foremost chronic inflammatory arthritis. Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) images tophi-monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits that indicate gout-as an easily recognizable green color, facilitating high sensitivity. However, tophi-like regions ("artifacts") may be found in healthy controls, degrading specificity. To mitigate false positives, we propose the first automated system to localize MSU-presenting crystal deposits from DECT and classify them as gouty tophi or artifacts. Our solution, developed using 47 gout and 27 control patient scans, is three-stage. First,

Advanced atherosclerosis imaging by CT: Radiomics, machine learning and deep learning.

In the last decade, technical advances in the field of medical imaging significantly improved and broadened the application of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) for the non-invasive assessment of coronary artery disease. Recently, similar breakthroughs are happening in the post-processing, analysis and interpretation of radiological images. Technologies such as radiomics allow to extract significantly more information from scans than what human visual assessment is capable of. This allows the precision phenotyping of diseases based on medical images. The increased amount of information can then b
