Also, procedural efficiency of PVAC GOLD was compared with ERACE. Learning to recognize and predict temporal sequences is fundamental to sensory perception and is impaired in several neuropsychiatric disorders, but little is known about where and how this occurs in the brain. We discovered that repeated presentations of a visual sequence over a course of days resulted in evoked response potentiation in mouse V1 that was highly specific for stimulus order and timing. This open pilot study of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in 60 patients with treatment-resistant major depressive episodes (MDEs) aimed to: 1) define the response rate; 2) determine the profile of side effects; and, most importantly; 3) establish predictors of clinical outcome. Participants were outpatients with nonatypical, nonpsychotic, major depressive or bipolar disorder who had not responded to at least two medication trials from different antidepressant classes in the current MDE. While on stable medication regimens, the patients completed a baseline period followed by device implantation.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) and thalamotomy are both capable of abolishing tremor. However, no technique is perfect and if thalamotomy proves inadequate so that tremor recurs, presumably because of suboptimal lesion location, the only option is to repeat the thalamotomy. With DBS all that has been necessary to date is to change the parameters of stimulation. Similarly with complications such as the "cerebellar" ones and paraesthesiae.
