Topological Progress Potential-Enhanced Continuous-Space Ant Colony Algorithm for Robot Path Planning.

To address the issues of traditional grid-based Ant Colony Optimization path planning in discretized continuous space-including limited direction freedom, lack of global topological guidance, and difficulty in balancing path smoothness and safety margin-a topological progress potential-enhanced continuous-space ant colony path planning algorithm (TPP-CSACO) is proposed. TPP-CSACO discards grid-based expansion; instead, a perception circle centered on each ant is defined, movement is executed via a sector-based perception framework with probabilistic direction selection, and band-shaped decayin

How to perform unilateral pectineal suspension for apical prolapse by robotic assistance: A technical note with Video.

Sacrocolpopexy remains the gold-standard surgical technique for the management of apical prolapse, whether performed with or without concomitant hysterectomy. However, the use of synthetic mesh has become increasingly debated owing to concerns regarding postoperative complications. Robotic-assisted unilateral pectineal suspension (UPS) has emerged as an innovative, safe, and effective alternative for apical prolapse repair. This minimally invasive, mesh-free procedure achieves uterine suspension by anchoring the anterior cervical surface to Cooper's iliopectineal ligament. Indications include

Artificial intelligence-based anatomical recognition improves surgeon decision-making during robotic gastrectomy.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI)-based anatomical recognition has emerged to support intraoperative cognition; however, its clinical utility beyond education remains limited. This study aimed to develop an AI model for suprapancreatic lymph node dissection during robotic distal gastrectomy (RDG) and evaluate its utility for intraoperative decision-making by surgeons. METHODS: We developed a deep learning model using 67 RDG videos (54 for training and 13 for testing) to recognize the pancreas, common hepatic artery (CHA), left gastric artery (LGA), and left gastric vein (LGV). Model pe

Systemic Immune-Inflammatory Index For Evaluating Robotic and Laparoscopic Proximal Gastrectomy in Upper Gastric Cancer.

Tumor resection is a commonly used treatment method in clinical practice. With the increasing refinement of tumor surgery, the application of robotic-assisted surgery in clinical procedures has expanded. However, effective indicators for evaluating surgical efficacy and postoperative prognosis remain limited. This study introduced the systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) to evaluate perioperative inflammatory responses and postoperative recovery following robotic and conventional laparoscopic surgery. A total of 81 patients who underwent robotic-assisted gastrointestinal tumor resection an

Intraoperative Techniques Aiding Margin Assessment and Nerve Sparing During Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy.

Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) requires a balance between complete cancer excision and preservation of urinary continence and erectile function. Because the preservation of neurovascular bundles adjacent to the prostate surface contributes to postoperative functional recovery, intraoperative margin assessment and surgeon-guidance technologies may help refine resection and support individualized nerve-sparing decision-making. Neurovascular structure-adjacent frozen-section examination remains the most studied and clinically established method, with evidence supporting reduced posit

Robotic uterine transposition and reposition in a patient with rectal cancer: complete case report and surgical perspective.

Uterine transposition (UT) is an emerging fertility-preserving technique for women requiring pelvic radiation. We report our first complete robotic UT followed by successful robotic uterovaginal anastomosis (uterine reposition, UR) in the multimodal treatment of rectal adenocarcinoma. A 29-year-old nulligravid woman with locally advanced rectal cancer underwent robotic UT in February 2024 prior to neoadjuvant chemoradiation. The uterus and adnexa were transposed to the upper abdomen with preservation of vascular supply, perfusion confirmed by fluorescence angiography, and a temporary neocervic

Comparing the Oncologic and Surgical Outcomes of Laparoscopic Versus Robotic Rectal Cancer Surgery: A Narrative Review.

The surgical management of rectal cancer has evolved from open resection to laparoscopic and, more recently, robotic minimally invasive approaches. Laparoscopy established the short-term benefits of minimally invasive rectal surgery but is limited within the confines of the bony pelvis, prompting adoption of the robotic platform with its three-dimensional visualization, wristed instruments, and tremor filtration. Whether these refinements translate into measurable clinical benefit remains debated. This narrative review compares the two approaches across oncologic, perioperative, functional, an

Refining Robotic Extravesical Ureteral Reimplantation: Impact of Ureteral Adventitia Inclusion and Distal-First Detrusorraphy.

Background: Robot-assisted laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation via an extravesical approach (RALUR-EV) is an established minimally invasive option for vesicoureteral reflux (VUR); however, surgical success remains variable, and detrusorraphy technique is a key determinant of reflux resolution. This study evaluated whether a refined detrusorraphy technique is associated with improved surgical outcomes following RALUR-EV. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent RALUR-EV performed by a single surgeon between August 2013 and February 2023. A technique modification introduced i

Robot-assisted integrated cognitive-motor rehabilitation in patients with chronic stroke: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive and motor impairments are major determinants of functional independence after stroke. While robot-assisted training is effective for motor recovery, its impact on cognitive function through integrated cognitive-motor training remains less explored. This study evaluated the effects of an end-effector robot-assisted integrated cognitive-motor rehabilitation program on global cognitive function and upper limb motor outcomes in patients with chronic stroke. METHODS: In this single-center, randomized, assessor-blinded exploratory trial, 30 patients with stroke were randomized

Preclinical evaluation of the newly developed carina platform in robotic-assisted proctectomy with porcine and cadaveric models.

Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery has made progress in addressing many of the technical challenges associated with conventional laparoscopy. Recently, a new robotic surgical system, Carina Platform, has been developed. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and safety of Carina for proctectomy surgery in preclinical models. Port and cart positions were initially determined by surgical simulation based on three-dimensional reconstruction. Six pigs, divided equally into acute and chronic groups, underwent robotic-assisted proctectomy using the Carina robotic system. Operative t

Robot-assisted Axillary Lymph Node Dissection for Axillary Lymph Node Metastasis in Breast Cancer.

Current experience with robotic-assisted axillary lymph node dissection (R-ALND) is limited. Axillary lymph node dissection is essential for patients with pathological N2-3 disease, but conventional open surgery carries a risk of injury to the intercostobrachial nerve, leading to sensory deficits, pain, and reduced quality of life. R-ALND may enhance precision through minimally invasive techniques, potentially reducing complications. Patients with breast cancer who underwent R-ALND at our institution between March 2024 and March 2025 were enrolled and analyzed. The procedure used the da Vinci

Global research trends and frontier evolution in robot-assisted distal pancreatectomy: a bibliometric and visualization analysis.

Robot-assisted distal pancreatectomy is increasingly recognized as an important minimally invasive option for lesions of the pancreatic body and tail. Given the technical complexity inherent to distal pancreatectomy, including deep operative planes, vascular dissection, splenic vessel management, and the persistent risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula, robotic systems may offer specific advantages in selected settings. However, although the number of relevant publications has continued to rise, the overall research landscape and thematic development of this field remain insufficiently and

Pressure alopecia following robotic gynaecological surgery: Lessons from a case series on a preventable complication.

Pressure alopecia is an under-recognised but preventable post-operative complication associated with surgeries. With the increasing use of robotic gynaecological procedures, patients are often subjected to steep Trendelenburg position predisposing them to scalp pressure and scalp oedema which leads to local ischaemia. We present a case series of patients who developed post-operative pressure alopecia following robotic gynaecological surgery. All cases were characterised by delayed onset, non-scarring alopecia over pressure-bearing areas of the scalp, with spontaneous regrowth over time. Althou
