Infectious Complications, Healthcare Resource Use, and Medical Costs Associated with Delays in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy Among Patients with Stone Disease and Ureteral Stent Placement.

Purpose: The relationship between ureteral stent duration before percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and infectious complications, admissions, imaging, and medical costs was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent PCNL within 6 months of ureteral stent placement were identified from commercial claims, categorized by time to treatment (0-30, 31-60, and >60 days), and followed 1-month post-PCNL. The effect of delayed treatment on inpatient admissions, infectious complications (pyelonephritis/sepsis), and imaging utilization was evaluated with logistic regression. A generalized l

Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy versus flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy using a negative-pressure ureteral access sheath: a minimally invasive approach for renal calculi.

INTRODUCTION: Renal calculi are a common urological condition, and minimally invasive surgical techniques have become the mainstay of treatment. We evaluated and compared the clinical effectiveness of mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) and flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy (FURL) assisted by a negative-pressure ureteral access sheath (NPUAS) in the management of renal calculi. METHODS: A total of 124 patients with renal calculi were assigned to mini-PCNL (n = 62) or NPUAS-FURL (n = 62) groups. Surgical parameters (operative time, blood loss), hospitalization, stone c

Miniperc percutaneous nephrolithotomy versus retrograde intrarenal surgery in the treatment of juxta uretero-pelvic junction upper ureteric calculi: A prospective, randomized control study.

INTRODUCTION: Treatment of upper ureteric calculi has always remained a challenge for urologists. Treating the juxta-UPJ stones has been even more challenging. Difficulties in access, the possibility of up migration of stones, higher chances of leaving behind residual fragments, and the need for ancillary procedures like ESWL or relook URS have been a few inherent limitations in treating such stones. Offering PCNL for smaller stones was considered an overkill by many urologists. However, with the advent of miniaturized PCNL and improvisations in RIRS techniques, more and more of such stones ar

Efficacy and safety of modified tract dilation technique using simultaneous pulling of proximal and distal ends of a guidewire for percutaneous nephrolithotomy in modified supine position.

PURPOSE: Recently, the needs for supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) have become more increased because of an easy approach for endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery. However, making a nephrostomy tract during supine PCNL is more difficult than prone position due to movable kidney. To overcome this limitation, we used a modified nephrostomy tract dilation (MTD) technique using guidewire traction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2014 to June 2019, a total of 259 patients underwent PCNL in the modified supine position. Among them, the MTD technique was performed in 171 patients. For
