Pretreatment biopsy material of 82 cases of follicular lymphoma of lymph node origin was reviewed. According to the amount of small lymphocytes in the parafollicular lymphoid tissue (PSL), tumors were classified: PSL++, abundant lymphocytes with prominent postcapillary venules; PSL+, a number of lymphocytes readily recognizable, postcapillary venules present but not prominent; PSL+/-, lymphocytes barely appreciable or absent. We describe an elderly male patient who presented with fever of unknown origin and refractory hyponatraemia. Following (18) fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan and core adrenal biopsy, the diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma with pituitary and bilateral adrenal involvement was confirmed. After chemotherapy, his symptoms resolved, and all the lesions shrank significantly.

Strongyloides hyperinfection syndrome, caused by the nematode Strongyloides stercoralis, is a life-threatening condition with a high mortality rate. This case report describes a 76-year-old woman who developed hyperinfection syndrome with gastrointestinal- and pulmonary symptoms shortly after her first round of chemotherapy for stage IV diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Despite her advanced age and frailty, she survived both the severe parasite infection and the two-month hospital stay, in addition to managing the challenges posed by the advanced-stage lymphoma.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare and aggressive form of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The frontline treatment with high-dose methotrexate based immunochemotherapy is not curative for the majority of patients. Gene expression profiling and next-generation sequencing have recently provided plethora of data shedding light on pathogenic mechanisms sustain PCNSL and identifying potential vulnerable mechanisms to be explored therapeutically. Here, we review established molecular drivers of PCNSL and targeted drugs that may change the current therapeutic paradigm.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an extremely rare malignant neoplasm showing morphologic and immunophenotypic evidence of histiocytic differentiation. OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of semi-nested PCR technique for detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) clonal rearrangement in bone marrow of B-cell lymphoma patient and to further evaluate its clinicopathological value.
METHODS: Gene clonal rearrangement of IgH was detected by semi-nested PCR using primers of FR2 & FR3A in 105 bone marrow samples of patients with B-cell lymphoma. The PCR detection results were compared with the cytomorphology of bone marrow aspiration biopsy. The correlation between PCR detection results and clinicopathological factors were evaluated.

A 78-year-old man with gastric diffuse large B cell lymphoma presented with persistent Helicobacter canis bacteremia while receiving chemotherapy. An examination of his medical history revealed a close exposure to dogs. The patient recovered after 4 weeks of antibiotic therapy. Immunocompromised persons who maintain close contacts with dogs maybe at risk for this infection.

We retrospectively evaluated (18)fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans in 172 patients with lymphoma and correlated results with pathologic diagnosis using the World Health Organization (WHO) classification system. Large and systematic studies of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in the Far East (FE) with good comparative data are scarce in the literature. In this study, five expert hematopathologists classified 730 consecutive cases of newly-diagnosed NHL from four sites in the FE (excluding Japan) using the World Health Organization classification.
