Impact of non-metropolitan residence on survival for gastric neuroendocrine tumors.

BACKGROUND: Gastric neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) treated at academic centers are associated with improved survival. However, the impact of location of residence remains unclear. Here, we evaluated outcomes based on metropolitan or non-metropolitan residence. METHODS: The National Cancer Database (NCDB) was accessed to identify adult patients diagnosed with invasive gastric NETs from 2004 to 2019. RESULTS: Of 14665 gastric NETs patients, 13 % (n = 1933) were from non-metropolitan areas. On multivariable analysis, non-metropolitan residence was associated with reduced survival (HR 1.13, p

Impact of Patient Positioning and Endotracheal Intubation During ERCP: Insights from a Large Database.

INTRODUCTION: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is conventionally performed in the prone position after intubating the airway. However, ERCP can also be performed in the left lateral and supine positions without endotracheal intubation. We compared procedural metrics and outcomes in patients placed prone, supine, and left lateral during ERCP. METHODS: In this retrospective multi-center analysis using a large, organization-wide database, patients were categorized as prone, supine, and left lateral based on the positioning for ERCP. Procedural metrics were calculated using c

BoneDat, a database of standardized bone morphology for in silico analyses.

In silico analysis is key to understanding bone structure-function relationships in orthopedics and evolutionary biology, but its potential is limited by a lack of standardized, high-quality human bone morphology datasets. This absence hinders research reproducibility and the development of reliable computational models. To overcome this, BoneDat has been developed. It is a comprehensive database containing standardized bone morphology data from 278 clinical lumbopelvic CT scans (pelvis and lower spine). The dataset includes individuals aged 16 to 91, balanced by sex across ten age groups. Bon

Evaluation of meibomian gland dysfunction with deep learning model considering different datasets and gland morphology.

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is recognized as the primary cause of evaporative-type dry eye disease (DED). Diagnosis typically involves assessing meibomian gland (MG) morphology alongside symptom evaluation. Traditionally, experts manually grade meibography images to assign a meiboscore (0-4 or 0-3), where higher scores indicate more severe gland loss. However, manual grading is subjective, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. To address these limitations, recent studies have introduced automated methods for gland segmentation and classification, utilizing either raw meibography images or
