Stand-on ride-on power mobility devices for children with cerebral palsy: pilot study protocol for waitlist-control pre-post biomechanical changes.

BACKGROUND: Many children with cerebral palsy are often deprived of participation in life activities due to limited postural control and walking capabilities. Ride-on power mobility devices (PMD) allow for the self-generated, active control of mobility. A novel stand-on ride-on device may provide the additional support to maintaining upright posture to improve children's balance and lower extremity strength. This pilot clinical trial aims primarily to assess the feasibility of conducting a full-scale randomized controlled trial, including evaluation of recruitment, retention, adherence to the

Vector-Driven Projection and Backprojection.

BACKGROUND: Projection and backprojection are fundamental operators in tomographic image reconstruction. Existing approaches-namely pixel-driven (PD), ray-driven (RD), and distance-driven (DD)-are subject to well-known trade-offs among interpolation artifacts, geometric flexibility, and computational cost. PURPOSE: This study aims to introduce a unified framework that systematically models and resolves the intrinsic limitations of current projection topologies. Within this framework, a novel topology called vector-driven (VD) is proposed to improve geometric flexibility without sacrificing co

Soccer health, performance, and injury prevention in highly trained youth soccer players: a public health approach.

BACKGROUND: The transition from youth academy participation to elite senior professional soccer is marred by physical volatility, non-linear development, and elevated injury risk, placing the long-term well-being of young athletes at the intersection of sports science and public health. Traditional chronological age group categorization exacerbates selection bias through the Relative Age Effect (RAE) and often fails to safeguard growing athletes from workload-induced injuries. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate a multi-center, maturation-indexed public health intervention protocol designe

Digital twin-based multi-scale framework for seismic integrity assessment of deep underground caverns.

Deep underground caverns have attracted considerable interest in recent years due to their critical role in hydropower and energy infrastructure systems. However, reliable post-earthquake assessment remains challenging due to the complexity of multi-scale seismic response, uncertainty in rock mass properties, and difficulties in interpreting heterogeneous monitoring data. Despite the importance of seismic integrity assessment, there remains a paucity of systematic frameworks that integrate modeling and monitoring in a unified manner. This study therefore proposes a Digital Twin-driven multi-sc

Automated dental age estimation model for panoramic radiographs.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Developmental stages of the dentition and age-group classification are crucial in forensic odontology, oral radiology, pediatric dentistry, and orthodontic dentistry. However, the manual interpretation of dental panoramic (OPG) radiographs for assessing the developmental stages and further age-group classification is time-consuming and prone to variability. This current model aims to evaluate the performance of a computational neural network (CNN) based model for automated detection of Nolla's developmental stages of permanent teeth and subsequent dental age group clas

A Novel Magnetic Bead-Based Differential DNA Extraction Method with Potential for High-Throughput Automation in Forensic Casework: A Proof-of-Concept Study.

Background/Objectives: Sexual offences remain a global challenge, disproportionality affecting developing and conflict-stricken countries. Differential DNA extraction (DDE) is standardly applied to intimate swabs collected in these cases to separate and purify sperm and epithelial fractions ahead of DNA profiling. Whilst DNA purification steps using magnetic bead technology are routinely automated in general forensic workflows, the separation step within DDE workflows usually relies on centrifugation, which is challenging to automate in a high-throughput manner. This proof-of-concept study aim

Beyond mediation: an evolutionary benchmark for emotionally and normatively competent AI.

This study presents an agent-based simulation framework for assessing the adaptive and emotional abilities required of AI systems acting as mediators in social and legal environments, where being right does not necessarily mean achieving fairness and stability. Unlike benchmarks based on logical inference or computational efficiency, the framework measures three key traits of effective dispute resolution: emotional regulation, willingness to compromise, and post-conflict trust repair. We defined five canonical negotiation tasks that vary in psychological reactivity, escalation, fatigue in comp

Exploratory Analysis of Electrical Impedance Tomography Features Associated with Spirometric Airflow Limitation.

Introduction: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive, radiation-free imaging modality that provides real-time information on regional lung ventilation from wearable sensors. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a highly prevalent respiratory disease causing persistent and progressive airway obstruction. The diagnosis is based primarily on spirometry, in which a Tiffeneau index (forced expiratory volume in 1 s/forced vital capacity ratio) below 0.7 is a key feature of the definitive diagnosis. Despite many advances in medicine, there is a lack of widely available meth

Systematic perturbation of cultures of K. phaffii by carbon co-feeding show gene signatures associated with production of recombinant proteins.

BACKGROUND: Demand for recombinant proteins is rapidly growing, driven by their use as biotherapeutics, vaccine components, industrial enzymes, and food ingredients. The growing market requires novel strategies for increasing protein production in cellular hosts. Systems-level frameworks have been used to improve production, but have had difficulty relating complex cellular pathways with protein expression. Here, we demonstrate a method for mapping relationships between gene expression signatures and carbon source-related phenotypes related to recombinant protein production. RESULTS: Our appro

Identity scaffolding as a moral need in the caretaking of unaccompanied refugee minors.

BACKGROUND: Unaccompanied refugee minors (URMs) represent one of the most vulnerable groups within the global refugee population, having fled armed conflict without familial support. Although policies in high-income countries secure URMs' basic rights-housing, education, healthcare and legal protection-these standardised frameworks frequently neglect the sociocultural and relational dimensions of identity integral to their well-being. OBJECTIVE: To articulate the moral imperative of identity scaffolding in URM care, demonstrating how current approaches enforce assimilation, exacerbate identit

Prostate MRI quality improvement: a Roadmap from the ESUR Prostate MRI Working Group.

Prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a crucial tool in diagnosing and managing prostate cancer, mainly by helping to avoid unnecessary biopsies and enhancing the detection of clinically significant disease. However, its clinical usefulness is often limited by wide variation in how images are acquired, interpreted, and reported worldwide. This inconsistency affects diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. In response, the Quality Improvement Subgroup of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) Prostate MRI Working Group has created a practical, three-step quality-imp
