Stacking Ensemble Machine Learning for Cardiac Safety Assessment Using hiPSC-CM MEA Data.

PURPOSE: Prediction of Torsades de Pointes (TdP) risk using hiPSC-CM assays remains challenging, as many models fail to capture nonlinear patterns and exhibit unstable performance across different drugs. We examined whether a stacking ensemble can improve robustness when only two simple Δ F P D c -derived predictors are available. METHODS: Two electrophysiological predictors were derived from MEA-based FPDc measurements: the maximum change ( Δ F P D c ) and the interpolated Δ F P D c at Cmax. These features were used to train a stacking model comprising random forest (RF), XGB, and a shall

Representation of Ordinal Features: Supervised Embeddings in the Survival Prediction of Prostate Cancer Patients.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer in men. Treatment decisions for PCa consider factors like age, tumor stage, and grade, along with specific prostate-related factors such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level and Gleason score. Most of these features are ordinal, meaning they have an inherent order of their categorical levels. Machine learning (ML) approaches are increasingly used to PCa prognosis. However, most ML models are not able to handle categorical features directly, so they need to be transformed into numerical representations. Common methods are ordinal or one-hot en

SpatialFormer: universal spatial representation learning from subcellular molecular to multicellular landscapes.

Understanding gene spatial expression and the organization of multicellular systems is vital for disease diagnosis and studying biological processes. However, existing models often struggle to integrate gene expression data with cellular spatial information effectively. Here we introduce SpatialFormer, a hybrid framework combining convolutional networks and transformers to learn single-cell multimodal and multiscale information in the niche context, including expression data and subcellular gene spatial distribution. Pretrained on 700 million cell pairs from 17 million spatially resolved singl

Validation of portable, semi-dry electrode-based electroencephalography device for its application in brain-computer interface solutions.

In recent years, commercial lightweight electroencephalography (EEG) headsets are gaining popularity in neuroscience. These devices commonly utilize only a few dry electrodes in specific locations and signal quality is often inferior compared to that of their traditional counterparts. In this study, we wanted to assess the feasibility of portable, paste-less, passive electrode-based EEG headset MindRove vision (VSN) for laboratory use. Three paradigms were implemented for acquiring visual evoked potential (VEP), P300 event-related potential and motor execution task (ME) related cortical patter

DualDyConvNet: Dual-Stream Dynamic Convolution Network via Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning for Predicting Motor Prognosis in Subacute Stroke.

Stroke is a significant impediment on a global scale, with the prognosis for motor ability contingent on initial rehabilitation and the severity of the injury. Consequently, the predictability of early recovery potential for personalized rehabilitation is crucial. However, studies predicting the prognosis of motor ability are still limited in performance. In this study, we propose a novel framework, called dual-stream dynamic convolution network (DualDyConvNet), to predict motor recovery for two months using resting-state electroencephalogram data in the subacute phase. Specifically, the chann

Influence pathways of noise exposure on people's negative emotions and health across different activity contexts: A neural network-based double machine learning approach.

Noise is a major global environmental issue that raises concerns about both mental and physical health. However, few studies have investigated the mediating role of emotions in the pathways linking noise exposure to health outcomes. Additionally, many studies have overlooked the varying effects of noise across different activity contexts. Most importantly, previous research has predominantly relied on correlational analysis, offering limited evidence of causality. In this study, we utilize real-time data from an environmental health survey of 800 residents in Hong Kong collected between 2021 a
