Study of the influencing factors of the liquid CO2 phase change fracturing effect in coal seams.

To study the influence of different factors on the cracking effect of the liquid CO2 phase transition, the mechanics of coal rock crack extension based on liquid CO2 phase change blast loading were studied. Through the application of simulation software to analyze the influence of coal seam physical parameters (in situ stress, gas pressure, modulus of elasticity and strength of coal) and blasting parameters (fracturing pore size and peak pressure of detonation)on the effect of liquid CO2 phase change cracking, the simulation results showed that the cracking effect of liquid CO2 phase change wa

A biomechanical study of headless compression screws versus a locking plate in radial head fracture fixation.

HYPOTHESIS: Fixation of a 3-part radial head fracture with cannulated compression screws will show equivalent stiffness to a locking plate under axial load. Debate exists regarding the management of Mason type III fractures, with many believing that open reduction and internal fixation provides advantages over other options. By virtue of their subarticular placement, screw fixation is less likely to cause impingement compared with plate fixation, which can result in loss of rotation and requirement for hardware removal. Insufficient fixation stability can lead to nonunions, necrosis of the rad

Epidemiology and treatment of forearm fractures in Swedish children and adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies, mainly single-center, on pediatric forearm fractures have shown that boys sustain fractures more frequently than girls. The most common injury mechanisms are falls and fractures occur more frequently during the summer. Most pediatric forearm fractures are treated non-surgically. This observational study aimed to present the demographics of pediatric forearm fractures in Sweden using the Swedish Fracture Register (SFR). METHODS: We included pediatric patients < 16 years with a registered forearm fracture in the SFR between January 1st, 2015, and December 31st, 201

Development of More Precise Measurement to Predict Pain 1 Month Postoperatively Based on Use of Acute Postoperative Pain Score in Patients With Distal Radial Fracture.

BACKGROUND: A method for modeling the acute pain trajectory using the simple linear fit of an individual's pain intensity scores after surgery was developed and affords more precise measurement than conventional pain assessment. However, the method has the disadvantage of using only the slope without considering the intercept. The purpose of this study was to verify our modification of the pain trajectory model including slope and intercept and to identify clusters. METHODS: The pain intensity was measured in 60 patients after surgery, and we calculated their pain trajectories. The pain traje

Monteggia-like lesions: preliminary reports and mid-term results of a single center.

Background and aim of the work Monteggia-like lesions are complex and rare elbow injuries. A detailed classification and a proper surgical treatment can provide quite good functional and radiological outcomes. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the mid-term results of Monteggia-like lesions surgical treatment. The other purpose was to investigate whether the complexity of ulna and radius fractures could be prognostic factors of insufficient functional results. Methods Seven women and five men, with a mean age of 59,25 years who had sustained a Monteggia-like lesion were follow…

Ultrasonography-guided reduction of pediatric radial neck fractures.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of displaced and angulated radial neck fractures in children is controversial and challenging. Numerous studies have been conducted regarding treatment algorithms and surgical techniques that use fluoroscopy. However, ultrasonography (US)-guided reduction of pediatric radial neck fractures has not been reported yet. We aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of US-guided reduction and fixation of radial neck fractures in children. METHODS: Among 28 cases of radial neck fracture from 2014 to 2016, 12 were classified as type III or IV according to the Judet classificati

The effectiveness of a modified Metaizeau technique in fixation of adult radial neck fractures: a prospective study with a modification of the Broberg-Morrey classification.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of adult radial neck fractures is lower compared with its pediatric counterpart. The literature on adult radial neck fracture management is limited; also, there is a lack of a detailed fracture classification system. In our study, we are evaluating the modified Metaizeau technique for the treatment of adult radial neck fractures. We also describe a modification to the existing fracture classification proposed by Broberg and Morrey to make it more inclusive of different fracture patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a prospective case series in which we included al

Impact of Radius Malunion on Wrist Contact Mechanics.

The patient was a 15-year-old adolescent girl with a chief complaint of intermittent pain and clicking at her right distal radioulnar joint, after having fractured her forearm 5 months previously. Radiographs of the patient's forearm indicated a midshaft radial deformity. Given the patient's pain and limited range of motion, computed tomography imaging was requested to assess whether the midshaft malunion resulted in distal radioulnar joint instability and to plan the corrective osteotomy. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2016;46(5):399. doi:10.2519/jospt.2016.0406.

Articulating tactical traction splint use on pulseless forearm fracture.

An articulating tactical traction splint (REEL™ Tactical Traction Splint), commonly issued to U.S. military personnel, was used to maintain traction in a pulseless forearm fracture during a confined space rescue, with good peripheral perfusion maintained through transport. This enabled a single rescuer to focus attention and provide care for other critical aspects of a multisystem trauma patient.
