Endothelial cells of the microvasculature (arterioles, fenestrated capillaries, and small venules) of the rabbit ciliary body have been examined in freeze-fracture replicas in ultrahigh vacuum and at very low temperatures, with special regard to their junctional boundaries. The junctional complexes of fenestrated capillaries and venular endothelium are discontinuous and do not seal the interendothelial clefts. A dominantly inherited cleavage of the pigment layer of the iris has been observed throughout three generations. In the two elder generations, luxation and rapidly progressing opacification of the lenses occurred; after cataract extraction, a cleavage of the pigment layer of the ciliary body could also be seen through the iridectomy. The lenses had reduced sagital and spherical diameters (4X7 mm). Furthermore, a peculiar form of glaucoma and a peripheral retinal detachment has been observed in the eldest generation.

Ciliary body medulloepithelioma is a rare ocular tumor with variable clinical presentation that may delay diagnosis. We report four cases evaluated at our centre, highlighting clinical features, imaging findings, and histopathological correlation. The trabecular meshwork (TM) and ciliary body (CB) regulate aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP), and TM/Schlemm's canal (SC) dysfunction underlies glaucoma. Destruction of the ciliary body is regarded as a potential way to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) and treat glaucoma patients. This study evaluated the IOP-lowering capability of a novel device for ciliary body radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in a rabbit glaucoma model. INTRODUCTION: The natural course of adenomas of the ciliary-body epithelium (ACE) is uncertain, due to their low incidence and their frequent initial surgical management.Their differential diagnosis with amelanotic melanoma or metastasis is challenging and diagnostic biopsies require sufficient tissue and highly specialized pathologists. Ultrasound biomicroscopy offers high resolution images and clear sonographic signs suggestive of ACE allowing a more precise differential diagnosis and therefore, a more conservative initial attitude.

This study seeks to determine the main events that occur in the development of the ciliary body (CB) in the 5-14th week of development. The CB develops from the distal portion of the optic cup (OC) and the neighboring mesenchyme. Adenosine is known to exert multiple functions within the eye. The aim of this report was to find out if adenosine can be produced locally in the choroid and ciliary body. The definitive diagnosis of medulloepitheliomas of the ciliary body and optic nerve is made by histopathologic examination. Familiarity with rare tumors aids clinicians in accurately diagnosing this rare neoplasm.
