An epidemic of primary pulmonary hypertension occurred in Europe in the 1960s, after the introduction of the appetite suppressant aminorex. Recently, a cluster of cases of pulmonary hypertension was observed in France in relation to the intake of the appetite suppressant dexfenfluramine.
