Automatic detection and prediction of COVID-19 in cough audio signals using coronavirus herd immunity optimizer algorithm.

The global spread of COVID-19, particularly through cough symptoms, necessitates efficient diagnostic tools. COVID-19 patients exhibit unique cough sound patterns distinguishable from other respiratory conditions. This study proposes an advanced framework to detect and predict COVID-19 using deep learning from cough audio signals. Audio data from the COUGHVID dataset undergo preprocessing through fuzzy gray level difference histogram equalization, followed by segmentation with a U-Net model. Key features are extracted via Zernike Moments (ZM) and Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM). The Enh

Predicting blood pressure without a cuff using a unique multi-modal wearable device and machine learning algorithm.

Blood pressure is a critical risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), yet most adults do not monitor it frequently enough to prevent serious complications. This is in part because the traditional cuff-based method is inconvenient, uncomfortable, and does not allow for continuous monitoring. To address these constraints, we developed a unique multi-modal wearable device and used a random forest regression (RFR) algorithm that resulted in a model capable of accurate cuffless blood pressure prediction. This multi-modal device features two photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors and two bioimped

Novel Vascular Territory Mapping Algorithm as a Predictive Tool for Identification of Antegrade Flow in Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion.

BACKGROUND: Vascular territory mapping (VTM) software estimates which intracerebral vessel provides predominant arterial flow to a brain voxel. The presence of antegrade flow in the setting of acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion is associated with improved outcomes. We identify whether VTM software is a determinant of antegrade flow in patients with proximal MCA occlusion. METHODS: Consecutive patients with the first branch of MCA (M1) occlusion were analyzed from the International Stroke Perfusion Imaging Registry with their computed tomography perfusion reprocessed through VTM soft

An improved catalogue for whole-genome sequencing prediction of bedaquiline resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis using a reproducible algorithmic approach.

Bedaquiline (BDQ) has only been approved for use for just over a decade and is a key drug for treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis; however, rising levels of resistance threaten to reduce its effectiveness. Catalogues of mutations associated with resistance to BDQ are key to detecting resistance genetically for either diagnosis or surveillance. At present, building catalogues requires considerable expert knowledge, often requires the use of complex grading rules and is an irreproducible process. We developed an automated method, catomatic, that associates genetic variants with resistance
