Simulation of emission molecular spectra by a semi-automatic programme package: the case of C2 and CN diatomic molecules emitting during laser ablation of a graphite target in nitrogen environment.

Some emission spectra of diatomic molecules were calculated by a semi-automatic programme package in order to infer the rotational and vibrational temperatures in Boltzmann distribution by comparing them with the corresponding experimental ones. The calculation procedure was applied in the case of CN radical and C2 molecule whose optical emission spectra were recorded during pulsed excimer laser ablation of a graphite target in low-pressure nitrogen environment. Computed similar or dissimilar values of rotational and vibrational temperatures let to verify the existence or not of local thermody

Topological Superconductivity Based on Antisymmetric Spin-Orbit Coupling.

Topological superconductivity (TSC) has drawn much attention for its fundamental interest and application in quantum computation. An outstanding challenge is the lack of intrinsic TSC materials with a p-wave pairing gap, which has led to the development of an effective p-wave theory of coupling s-wave gap with Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC). However, the RSOC-strict mechanism and materials pose still both fundamental and practical limitations. Here, we generalize this theory to antisymmetric SOC (ASOC). Using k·p perturbation theory, we demonstrate that 2D crystals, with point groups of C2,

High-Precision Bootstrap of Multimatrix Quantum Mechanics.

We consider matrix quantum mechanics with multiple bosonic matrices, including those obtained from dimensional reduction of Yang-Mills theories. Using the matrix bootstrap, we study simple observables like ⟨tr X^{2}⟩ in the confining phase of the theory in the infinite N limit. Exploiting the symmetries of these models and applying nonlinear relaxation, we impose constraints that include traces of words of length up to 14. Our results yield rigorous bounds on the large-N ground-state dynamics, along with estimates of selected low-order observables to eight significant digits.

Implementation and analysis of quantum majority rules under noisy conditions.

Quantum voting, inspired by quantum game theory, provides a framework in which the quantum majority rule (QMR) constitution of Bao and Yunger Halpern [Phys. Rev. A 95, 062306 (2017)] violates the quantum analogue of Arrow's impossibility theorem. We evaluate this QMR constitution analytically on classical profile data and implement its final measurement stage as a quantum circuit, running on both noiseless simulators and noisy IBM quantum hardware to map how realistic noise deforms the resulting societal ranking distribution. For the dephased profiles studied here, the post-processing steps ac

Quantum Confinement Effect in a Heteromorphic PbS/SnS2 Superlattice Grown by Atomic Layer Deposition.

Quantum confinement in artificial superlattices enables the engineering of electronic and optical properties that exceed bulk limitations. Despite the unrivaled precision in thickness control and scalability of atomic layer deposition (ALD), the experimental demonstration of confinement effects in the superlattice geometry has remained elusive, especially for nonoxide systems. In this study, we report the experimental demonstration of distinct quantum confinement in the chalcogenide-based heteromorphic superlattices via an ALD supercycle approach. Polycrystalline PbS and amorphous SnS2 are alt

Evidence for multi-Li+ clustering in lithium-ion battery electrolytes.

In lithium-ion batteries, the bulk solvation structure of the electrolyte is a major determinant of the physical and electrochemical properties of the cell, for example, conductivity, viscosity, salt dissociation and subsequent reactivity, the electrochemical stability window (and thus solid electrolyte interphase formation), and the composition of the electrochemical double layer1-3. However, elucidation of this structure at an atomic level of detail has been challenging to accomplish via a purely experimental approach. Here we combine machine-learning-enabled atomistic simulations4-16, nucle

Accelerating Screening of Phase Separation Agents for Carbon Dioxide Capture: A Machine-Learning Framework with Interpretable Quantum Chemical Insights.

Against the backdrop of addressing climate change and reducing carbon emissions, carbon dioxide capture technology has gained increasing significance as a key approach toward achieving global carbon neutrality. However, in the development of phase change absorbents, current screening methods for phase separation agents (PSAs) predominantly rely on static empirical parameters, neglecting electronic effects and phase equilibrium mechanisms, which somewhat restrict the improvement of screening efficiency and accuracy. This study innovatively proposes a novel paradigm integrating quantum chemistry

Deep Learning Prediction of Drug-Induced Liver Toxicity by Manifold Embedding of Quantum Information of Drug Molecules.

PURPOSE: Drug-induced liver injury, or DILI, affects numerous patients and also presents significant challenges in drug development. It has been attempted to predict DILI of a chemical by in silico approaches, including data-driven machine learning models. Herein, we report a recent DILI deep-learning effort that utilized our molecular representation concept by manifold embedding electronic attributes on a molecular surface. METHODS: Local electronic attributes on a molecular surface were mapped to a lower-dimensional embedding of the surface manifold. Such an embedding was featurized in a ma

Quantum Chemical and Biological Insights into Redox Activity of Metallacarborane Complexes in Cancer Cells.

A relationship between the electronic properties of metal ions in metallacarboranes and their ability to modulate mitochondrial oxidase activity and membrane hyperpolarization in cancer cells was demonstrated. Quantum chemistry methods, including DFT and molecular dynamics simulations, were used to understand the oxidized and reduced forms of metallacarboranes and their intramolecular rotatory behavior. According to the low-spin assumption for metal ions, the intramolecular oscillations of cluster ligands in metallacarboranes are significantly influenced by the type of metal and correspond to

Interaction between hydroxymethanesulfonic acid and several organic compounds and its atmospheric significance.

The interactions of the micro-mechanism of hydroxymethanesulfonic acid (HMSA) with the typical small organic molecule in atmospheric (X = methanol, formaldehyde, formic acid, methyl formate, dimethyl ether, acetone) has been investigated by density functional theory (DFT), quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM), Generalized Kohn-Sham Enery Decomposition Analysis (GKS-EDA) and the atmospheric clusters dynamic code (ACDC). The results of DFT show that the stable six- to eight-membered ring structures are easily formed in HMSA-X clusters. According to the topological analysis results of the…

Stabilization of the Protein Structure by the Many-Body Cooperative Effect in the NH/π Hydrogen-bonding Tryptophan Triad.

The indole ring of tryptophan can form NH/π hydrogen bonds, acting both as a hydrogen donor at the NH group in the pyrrole subring and as a hydrogen acceptor at the benzene subring. In the structural core of the trimeric stable protein Pholiota squarrosa lectin (PhoSL), three indoles are symmetrically arranged and form NH/π hydrogen bonds among each other. Here, we conducted quantum chemical calculations on this indole triad by using various methods and basis sets. The analyses revealed cooperativity in triad formation, with the many-body effect contributing approximately -2 kcal mol-1, which

Liquid-liquid equilibrium measurements and computational study of salt-polymer aqueous two phase system for extraction of analgesic drugs.

In recent decades, aqueous two phase systems have gained a lot of attention for extraction of different materials. In this work, an aqueous two phase system was made by polyethylene glycol 600 and potassium hydroxide and phase diagram were determined for this system. The experimental binodal data were described using two empirical nonlinear three parameter expressions developed by Merchuk and Zafarani-Moattar. The consistency of the experimental tie-line data was determined by utilizing the Othmer-Tobias, Bancraft, and Setschenow correlations. Also, the extraction of two analgesic drugs, namel

The Underlying Mechanism of HNO Production by the Myoglobin-Mediated Oxidation of Hydroxylamine.

Azanone (HNO, nitroxyl) is a highly reactive molecule that, in the past few years, has drawn significant interest because of its pharmacological properties. However, the understanding of how, when, and where endogenous HNO is produced remains a matter of discussion. In this study, we examined the ability of myoglobin to produce HNO via the peroxidation of hydroxylamine with H2O2 using both experimental and computational approaches. The production of HNO was confirmed using an azanone selective electrochemical method and by the detection of N2O using FTIR. The catalytic capacity of myoglobin wa

Mechanistic Insights into the Oxidative Ring Expansion from Penicillin N to Deacetoxycephalosporin C Catalyzed by a Nonheme Iron(II) and α-KG-Dependent Oxygenase.

Deacetoxycephalosporin C synthase (DAOCS) is a nonheme iron(II) and 2-oxoglutarate (α-KG)-dependent oxygenase that catalyzes the oxidative ring expansion of penicillin N (penN) to deacetoxycephalosporin C (DAOC). Earlier reported crystal structures of DAOCS indicated that the substrate penicillin binds at the same site of succinate, leading to the proposal of the unusual "ping-pong" mechanism. However, more recent data provided evidence of the formation of ternary DAOCS·α-KG·penN complex, and thus DAOCS should follow the usual consensus mechanism of α-KG-dependent nonheme iron(II) oxygenases.

Reparametrization of the COSMO Solvent Model for Semiempirical Methods PM6 and PM7.

An accurate description of solvation effects is of high importance in modeling biomolecular systems. Our main interest is to find an accurate yet efficient solvation model for semiempirical quantum-mechanical methods applicable to large protein-ligand complexes in the context of computer-aided drug design. We present a survey of readily available methods and a new reparametrization of the COSMO solvent model for PM6 and PM7 calculations in MOPAC. We have tested the reparametrized method on validation data sets of small drug-like molecules for which experimental solvation free energies are avai

Database of Nuclear Independent Chemical Shifts (NICS) versus NICSZZ of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs).

In the present contribution, we have developed a database, called the FAR-database, where the acronym FAR stands for Fused Aromatic Rings, which presents the results of nuclear independent chemical shifts calculations, NICS(0), NICS(1), NICS(0)ZZ, and NICS(1)ZZ, of 660 neutral benzenoid-PAHs and cyclopenta-fused PAHs. The FAR-database provides NICS data of aromaticity of PAHs that could be used in data science and machine learning. To the best of our knowledge, no such database is available in the literature. The importance of this database lies in its potential to transform data into insight

Nitrosylation of Nitric-Oxide-Sensing Regulatory Proteins Containing [4Fe-4S] Clusters Gives Rise to Multiple Iron-Nitrosyl Complexes.

The reaction of protein-bound iron-sulfur (Fe-S) clusters with nitric oxide (NO) plays key roles in NO-mediated toxicity and signaling. Elucidation of the mechanism of the reaction of NO with DNA regulatory proteins that contain Fe-S clusters has been hampered by a lack of information about the nature of the iron-nitrosyl products formed. Herein, we report nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy (NRVS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations that identify NO reaction products in WhiD and NsrR, regulatory proteins that use a [4Fe-4S] cluster to sense NO. This work reveals that nitro

Predicting Molecular Crystal Properties from First Principles: Finite-Temperature Thermochemistry to NMR Crystallography.

Molecular crystals occur widely in pharmaceuticals, foods, explosives, organic semiconductors, and many other applications. Thanks to substantial progress in electronic structure modeling of molecular crystals, attention is now shifting from basic crystal structure prediction and lattice energy modeling toward the accurate prediction of experimentally observable properties at finite temperatures and pressures. This Account discusses how fragment-based electronic structure methods can be used to model a variety of experimentally relevant molecular crystal properties. First, it describes the cou

Synthesis of Industrially Relevant Carbamates towards Isocyanates using Carbon Dioxide and Organotin(IV) Alkoxides.

A straightforward phosgene-free synthesis of aromatic isocyanates and diisocyanates is disclosed. Theoretical investigations suggested that the insertion of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) by dialkyltin(IV) dialkoxides could be used to convert aromatic amines into aromatic mono- and dicarbamates. Here we show, that methyl phenylcarbamate (MPC) from aniline using organotin(IV) dimethoxide and CO2 can be formed in high yield of up to 92 %, experimentally corroborating the predictions of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. MPC was then separated from the tin oxide residues and converted into phen
