PURPOSE: To assess the performance of the Pascal dynamic contour tonometer (PDCT) (Swiss Microtechnology AG) by comparing it to Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) and noncontact air tonometry (NCT) in keratoconic eyes.

AIM: As phototherapy (PT) devices employ a variety of broadband light sources, we developed and tested a standardized bench method for evaluating the efficacy of some devices.
METHODS: To evaluate efficacy, we quantified the in vitro photodegradation rate (expressed as t1/2) of unconjugated bilirubin in solution at 37 degrees C during exposure to a given light source at its mean delivered irradiance to the 2D body surface area (BSA) of newborn models. This research describes the development of a supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method to recover aflatoxin B(1) from fortified soil. The effects of temperature, pressure, modifier (identity and percentage), and extraction type were assessed. Using the optimized SFE conditions, the mean recovery from air dried soil was 72%. PURPOSE: To identify and characterize defects using the automated perimetry test in patients with primary congenital glaucoma.
METHODS: Automated visual fields and charts of 81 eyes (48 patients) with congenital glaucoma were retrospectively analyzed, 15 being normal eyes (group N) and 66 eyes with primary congenital glaucoma (group G). Eyes of group G were grouped in eyes without perimetric changes and with early defects, characterized by MD > -6 dB (group G I= 41 eyes), and eyes with mild/advanced perimetric defects characterized by MD < or = -6 dB (group G II= 25 eyes).
