We present the case of a patient on peritoneal dialysis (PD) who had an uneventful oesophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy. His peritoneal dialysis after colonoscopy had bright red peritoneal dialysate. The patient was completely asymptomatic and a CT scan was performed which did not reveal any retroperitoneal haematoma and showed no signs of perforation or splenic tear. His PD dialysate cleared up with time. We do not find any such case in the literature in which a patient has had haemoperitoneum after a colonoscopy without any obvious cause to account for it. Our patient was unique due t

UNLABELLED: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is one of the most common hereditary syndromes associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Onset of polyp formation and cancer in childhood is very unusual but has recently been associated with a specific mutation at codon 1309 in exon 15 where a more severe phenotype is sometimes observed .We report a 12-year-old girl who presented with haematochezia. The girl's mother and aunt had died of colon cancer which developed from untreated FAP. The other two aunts also had FAP and underwent colectomy. Endoscopy showed extensive polyps pres

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIM: Concomitant hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and psoriasis vulgaris (PV) are not uncommon coexisting diseases, especially in areas with high viral hepatitis endemicity. To date, data about the interaction between both diseases are scarce. Therefore, we aimed to describe the possible interplay between the HCV viral load and psoriatic activity in concomitant Egyptian diseased patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between December 2011 and August 2013, all psoriatic patients attending Assiut University Hospital outpatient clinics were tested for HCV serologic assay. Patients

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Variceal bleeding is a severe complication in patients with portal hypertension. Early rebleeding occurs frequently in the first few weeks after band ligation, and the mortality associated with each bleeding episode ranges from 30% to 50%. Our aims were to study the rate of early rebleeding oesophageal varices after band ligation in the Sohag University Hospital, Egypt, and to assess different clinical, biochemical, ultrasonographic, and endoscopic parameters that may predict the risk factors of rebleeding.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In the period from December 2011 to D

Panniculitis is an uncommon and rare complication of systemic fat necrosis in patients with pancreatic diseases. The skin manifestations are independent of the severity of the pancreatic pathology and can occur at any time. The lesions can precede, be concomitant with or rarely follow the pancreatic illness. We report a case of acute pancreatitis post Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP) for common bile duct stone, with subcutaneous panniculitis. We noted a complete resolution within two weeks after the treatment of the pancreatic pathology.

Adenocarcinoma and lymphoma represent the two most common malignant tumours of the stomach, with both neoplasms being associated with infection by Helicobacter pylori. However, the presence of lymphoma and adenocarcinoma in the same patient is a rare entity with synchronous neoplasms being more common than metachronous types. We report a case of stage IV gastric MALT lymphoma of the gastric angle with infiltration of the bone marrow successfully treated with chemotherapy and the occurrence of metachronous early gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundus presenting 1 year after the diagnosis of the l

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: There are many criteria and definitions used to evaluate the failure to control and prevent variceal bleeding. Baveno criteria were developed in Baveno consensus workshops I-III. Some of these criteria are fairly difficult to apply and do not adequately reflect common situations that are observed in clinical practice. Therefore, new criteria were developed at the Baveno-IV workshop. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the validity of Baveno II-IV criteria in the prediction of bleeding recurrence among patients with liver cirrhosis who presented with bleeding o

Fascioliasis is a zoonotic infection caused by Fasciola hepatica. Because of population migration and international food trade, human fascioliasis is being an increasingly recognised entity in nonendemic zones. In most parts of Asia, hepatobiliary fascioliasis is sporadic. Human hepatobiliary infection by this trematode has two distinct phases: an acute hepatic phase and a chronic biliary phase. Hepatobiliary infection is mostly associated with intense peripheral eosinophilia. In addition to classically defined hepatic phase and biliary phase fascioliasis, some cases may have an overlap of the
