Mesoporous bioactive glass hybrid nanoparticles accelerate tendon-bone healing via synergistic angiogenesis and immunomodulation.

A critical clinical challenge for Rotator cuff tear (RCT) treatment is to enhance tendon-bone healing, which is greatly affected by insufficient vascularization, chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress. In this work, a novel nanoparticle, MBG@SeHA/Sim, was designed to synergistically promote angiogenesis, modulate the immune response and promote bone regeneration, thereby accelerating tendon-bone healing. The comprehensive in vitro assays demonstrated that MBG@SeHA/Sim showed superior capabilities in promoting vascularization, mitigating inflammation, and stimulating bone regeneration. Besi

Inlay Dynamic Anterior Stabilization of the Shoulder With Long Head Biceps Tendon Using All-Suture Anchor.

Dynamic anterior stabilization using the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) has emerged as a soft-tissue alternative for treating anterior shoulder instability in the setting of subcritical glenoid bone loss. This Technical Note describes an inlay dynamic anterior stabilization technique using soft-tissue anchors designed to enhance tendon-to-bone healing and optimize the length-tension relation of the transferred LHBT. The procedure combines a modified Bankart repair with trans-subscapularis LHBT transfer and fixation within a 5-mm anterior-inferior glenoid bone tunnel using inlay soft anc

Development and Preliminary Assessment of a Tendon-Driven Thumb-Index Prosthesis with a Novel Hobbed-Pulley Actuation Mechanism.

Prosthetic hands have seen significant improvements in recent years, enabling increasingly more natural interactions between patients with upper limb loss and their environment. Nonetheless, progress is continuously being made to enhance user acceptance, which remains a major drawback in such systems. The efficiency of the actuation mechanism is a critical parameter when designing these devices. Maximising actuation approach efficiency enables the use of smaller and lighter motors, thus decreasing the overall weight of the solution. Simultaneously, increased efficiency contributes to more prec

Endoscopic Technique for Iliotibial Band and Gluteus Maximus Tendon Lengthening in the Treatment of External Snapping Hip Syndrome.

External snapping hip affects approximately 5% to 10% of the population. Surgical intervention, typically via endoscopic or open iliotibial band release, is generally reserved for recalcitrant cases. This article describes a step-by-step guide to the endoscopic treatment of persistent external snapping hip. The technique may be performed in isolation to address external snapping hip or in conjunction with procedures for intra-articular pathology, such as femoroacetabular impingement and labral tears. It involves releasing the iliotibial band and the gluteus maximus tendon at its femoral attach

Classifying Endurance Runners by Kinematics Strengthens Relationships of Muscle-Tendon Unit Function with Running Economy and Performance.

PURPOSE: Running kinematics and sex may alter the primary muscle and tendon demands for propulsion and shock absorption, potentially modifying how the muscle-tendon unit (MTU) function relates to the energy cost of running (ECR) and performance. This study examined whether clustering runners by running kinematics strengthens these relationships and how they differ by sex. METHODS: One hundred twenty endurance runners (60 females) underwent assessments of MTU function, including slow (30° s -1 ) and fast (180° s -1 ) isokinetic knee extension and flexion torque and performance in countermoveme

Mechanically Preconditioned Biomimetic Gradient Scaffold for Tendon-to-Bone Regeneration in a Rabbit Rotator Cuff Tear Model.

BACKGROUND: Healing of the tendon-bone interface (TBI) after rotator cuff injury is limited, often leading to scar-mediated repair. Decellularized tendon fibrocartilage-bone composite (dTFBC) and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell sheets (BMSCS) improve repair in preclinical models, but full scaffold encapsulation with mechanical preconditioning remains unexplored. PURPOSE: To evaluate TBI regeneration using mechanically preconditioned, BMSCS-encapsulated dTFBC scaffolds in a rabbit model. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: A total of 48 male New Zealand White rabbits were r

On the usefulness of Thompson´s test with a four-point scale after Achilles tendon rupture, a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Outcome after an acute Achilles tendon rupture often leaves individual variations in recovery and lingering impairment. Simple and accurate methods to assess healing during early rehabilitation are lacking. In this pilot study, we developed and evaluated a graded assessment procedure based on Thompson´s test. The aim was to examine if foot movement of the injured foot can be reliably assessed with the Four-point Scale of Thompson's test (FST). METHODS: The observed foot movement on the injured side, was graded in four categories, zero to three, in relation to the foot movement on

How Early Is Early? Defining Functional Rehabilitation After Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture: A Narrative Review.

Early functional rehabilitation after acute Achilles tendon rupture is increasingly used in nonoperative protocols, but the definition of "early" remains highly heterogeneous across the literature and no standardized timing threshold has been established. This narrative review clarifies the conceptual and operational definitions of early rehabilitation and examines the unresolved timing-threshold problem. Existing evidence supports early functional rehabilitation without a demonstrated increase in rerupture risk compared with delayed immobilization. Early rehabilitation may improve short-term

Incidental detection of congenital absence of the long head of the biceps tendon during shoulder arthroscopy: A case report.

Although congenital variations of the biceps brachii are relatively common, agenesis of the long head is exceedingly rare. Due to the absence of clinical symptoms and notable physical examination findings, its diagnosis is challenging. The absence of the long head repre-sents one such variant, although it has only rarely been reported in arthroscopic and imaging studies. As this anomaly does not result in functional impairment, congenital biceps agenesis is often incidentally detected on shoulder magnetic resonance imaging performed for other reasons. In this case report, we present a 42-year-

Recent advances in tendon redox biology: the interplay of oxidative stress, calcium signaling, and antioxidant defence mechanisms.

Tendon injuries are increasingly recognized as conditions driven not only by mechanical overload but also by complex molecular imbalances, particularly involving oxidative stress. Recent evidence highlights the central role of reactive oxygen species (ROS), originating primarily from mitochondrial respiration and NADPH oxidase activation, in regulating cellular responses during tendon injury and repair. Mechanical loading and calcium signaling further influence ROS dynamics, exacerbating oxidative damage or modulating adaptive responses depending on context. Tendon cells counteract oxidative i
