Persistent Supraventricular Tachycardia Following Central Venous Catheter Insertion: When Withdrawal of the Mechanical Stimulus Is Not Enough.

Cardiac arrhythmias are a recognised complication of central venous catheterisation and are usually attributed to mechanical irritation of the endocardium by the guidewire or catheter tip. These arrhythmias typically resolve following withdrawal of the mechanical stimulus. We report a 42-year-old man with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and diabetic ketoacidosis who developed an abrupt regular narrow-complex tachycardia at approximately 217 beats/min immediately following advancement of a right internal jugular central venous catheter. The arrhythmia was associated with transient

MYC as a key target for melanoma therapy.

Melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer, arises from malignantly transformed melanocytes. Its incidence and mortality are increasing despite the enormous advances in both the knowledge of the disease and the development of effective therapies. From a genetic point of view, cutaneous melanoma can be classified as driven by mutations in BRAF, NRAS or NF1, or the absence of these mutations (triple wildtype). MYC, an oncogene deregulated in most human cancers, drives tumor progression by exerting a broad array of functions that affect all the hallmarks of cancer. In this context, increas

Out-of-plane strain induced non-thermal bandgap tuning of black phosphorus on-chip devices.

Black phosphorus (BP), a layered van der Waals material with a direct bandgap and broad spectral tunability, offers new opportunities for developing advanced on-chip photonic architectures and operating mechanisms. In contrast to the widely studied in-plane strain tuning (typically requiring soft substrates), this work explores, through numerical simulation, out-of-plane strain as a means of spectral control compatible with rigid integrated platforms. We demonstrate that compressive out-of-plane strain reduces the bandgap of BP in proportion to the geometric compression in BP thickness, and th

Resonance-Enhanced Four-Wave Mixing Imaging for Mapping Defect Regions in Vanadium-Doped WS2 Monolayers.

Defect engineering is crucial for tuning 2D transition metal dichalcogenide properties for quantum and optoelectronic applications. While conventional photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectroscopies are important characterization tools, their mapping in large area samples can be time-consuming and lacks direct sensitivity for comprehensive defect characterization. Here, we introduce resonance-enhanced four-wave mixing (FWM) imaging for precise imaging and characterization of vanadium-induced defect states in WS 2 monolayers. Our multi-modal investigation, integrating hyperspectral PL, Raman,

Low-Dimensional V-VI van der Waals Compound Photodetectors.

This review for the first time provides a comprehensive overview on the low-dimensional V-VI van der Waals compounds-based photodetectors. It begins with the fundamental physical mechanisms for photodetection and the properties of various V-VI van der Waals compounds. Then, the preparation methods for producing low-dimensional V-VI compounds have been presented. Following this, various photodetectors based on low-dimensional V-VI compounds with distinct characteristics have been epitomized by categorizing them into trivial semiconductors and non-trivial topological insulators. Subsequently, ph

Prevention Strategies for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are well-known representative forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and they have long been regarded as intractable diseases of unknown etiology. Recent advances in genomic analyses, immunology, studies of the intestinal microbiota, elucidation of environmental factors, and long-term human cohort studies have greatly improved our understanding of the disease pathogenesis and accelerated the development of preventive approaches. Historically, the incidence of IBD was the highest in Western countries; however, in recent years, the number of pa

NONO promotes MYB expression and splicing by interacting with enhancer lncRNA MY34UE-AS in human leukemia cells.

Dysregulation of the transcription factor MYB plays a critical role in leukemia pathogenesis, progression, and prognosis; however, the detailed regulatory mechanisms of MYB remain unclear. Recently, we identified an enhancer long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) MY34UE-AS, which upregulates MYB expression. Here, we demonstrate that non-POU-domain-containing octamer binding protein (NONO) binds to MY34UE-AS through its RNA recognition motif 2 (RRM2) domain, thereby upregulating MYB expression and splicing. This interaction drives leukemia cell proliferation and migration. Our findings unveil a novel regu

[Advancement in the role of exosomes for hepatitis B virus infection diagnosis and treatment: mechanisms and clinical applications].

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major global public health problem, causing approximately one million deaths annually. Exosomes are nanosized vesicles (30-150 nm) enclosed in a lipid bilayer membrane, secreted by almost all cells, and carry bioactive substances such as proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids, thereby playing a key role in intercellular communication. Recent research results have shown that exosomes play an important advanced role in the diagnosis and treatment of HBV infection. This review systematically summarizes the dual role of exosomes in HBV infection (promoting viral

Research Advances in the Application of Aptamers for Hematologic Malignancies.

Hematologic malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma (MM), often present with nonspecific early symptoms that lead to misdiagnosis and delays in initiating treatment. These diseases pose substantial challenges to targeted therapy and prognostic monitoring. Compared with conventional antibodies and small-molecule inhibitors, aptamers offer several distinct advantages, including high binding affinity, low immunogenicity, and facile chemical modification. These properties make aptamers particularly well-suited to the clinical needs of hematologic oncology and highlight the

Cohesin on the move: navigating genomic traffic during loop extrusion.

Cohesin is a central architect of the 3D genome. As it extrudes DNA, it must navigate a 'busy' genomic landscape, leading to constant biophysical engagements with diverse chromatin binding proteins and molecular machineries. In this review, we examine how cohesin's loop extrusion is shaped by mechanical encounters with directional barriers like CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF), moving transcriptional fronts, and advancing replication forks. We highlight how these players can arrest, slow, or actively push cohesin, dynamically modulating chromatin topology. Furthermore, we discuss how the replisome

Beyond redox: vitamin C in signaling, epigenetic regulation and protein modification-relevance to cancer therapy.

Vitamin C, a classical antioxidant, is increasingly recognized as a key regulator of cellular signaling networks, epigenetic, and post-translational regulation. As a cofactor of Fe2+/2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases, vitamin C promotes epigenomic changes by enhancing TET-dependent DNA demethylation and the activity of Jumonji-C domain-containing histone demethylase, thereby influencing key cellular processes including pluripotency, reprogramming, and differentiation. Recent studies have also uncovered a direct role for vitamin C in proteome regulation by modifying lysine residues, to gene

Bromonium-catalyzed 1,2-diamination of various conjugated alkenes.

Alkene functionalization via cyclic halonium intermediates is highly effective for stereocontrol, and a catalytic approach further expands this strategy, offering access to more advanced functionalization. Although various studies have utilized halonium species, expanding their scope to electron-deficient or π-conjugated alkenes has remained challenging. In this report, using a bromonium catalytic system, we achieved the stereoselective intermolecular 1,2-diamination of various α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds and π-extended alkenes. The direct use of hazardous Br2 was avoided by generating

Toward Quantitative Domain-Motif Interactomes: State of the Art, Challenges, and Perspectives.

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) drive cellular function. Obtaining quantitative maps of protein interactomes is essential for linking genotype to phenotype and predicting cellular outcomes. A large fraction of PPIs are mediated by domain-motif interactions (DMIs), where motifs within intrinsically disordered regions bind to structured domains in partner proteins. These transient and low-affinity interactions play central roles in regulatory and cell signaling processes, and their disruption has been linked to disease. However, due to their transient and dynamic nature, systematic experimen

A critical appraisal of base-resolution m6A profiling techniques.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent internal modification in eukaryotic mRNA, influencing RNA fate and gene regulation. Early antibody-based approaches enabled transcriptome-wide profiling but lacked resolution and quantitative accuracy. Newer approaches now achieve base-resolution m6A detection using improved crosslinking, chemical or enzymatic conversion, and single-molecule sequencing. Antibody-free methods provide quantitative stoichiometry from minimal input, while nanopore direct RNA sequencing offers real-time, single-molecule readouts across entire transcriptomes. Collective

Stable, Efficient, and Scalable Two-Dimensional Perovskites for Next-Generation Solar Cells.

Metal halide perovskites have rapidly evolved from a niche class of semiconductors to a leading platform for advanced photovoltaic technologies. Within this family of materials, two-dimensional (2D) perovskites have emerged as structurally engineered derivatives that offer enhanced environmental stability relative to their three-dimensional counterparts. However, reduced dimensionality also introduces a distinct optoelectronic regime governed by confinement effects and structural anisotropy, which complicates the direct translation of established design strategies. This review presents a unifi
