Cardiac mucormycosis is an exceedingly rare condition. This case report describes mucormycosis endocarditis in an immunocompromised patient with ulcerative colitis. His condition was further complicated by multiple septic emboli to the lungs. His management included surgical excision of the right atrial endocarditic vegetation and antifungal treatment with high-dose liposomal amphotericin B.

Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal infection commonly seen in diabetics and immunocompromised patients. We report a case of disseminated mucormycosis in a 47-year-old diabetic male who underwent deceased donor renal allograft transplantation about 5 weeks prior to presentation. INTRODUCTION: Cutaneous Mucormycosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by Zygomycetes class of fungi that is often fatal, requiring aggressive local control as well as systemic therapy. BACKGROUND: The accuracy of diagnoses of acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (AIFRS) based on frozen sections has been questioned.
METHODS … . Regarding fungal species, the frozen biopsy of aspergillus showed higher sensitivity than that of mucor (0.8103 vs. 0.7544).
CONCLUSION: Positive frozen sections are reliable and facilitate early intervention in AIFRS. Collecting multiple specimens during surgery will decrease the rate of false-negative results.
