BACKGROUND: Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGN) is an uncommon condition characterized by chronic suppurative renal inflammation that leads to progressive parenchymal destruction.
PURPOSE: To review the computed tomography (CT) findings of patients diagnosed with XGN.

We report a case of congenital hyperinsulinism with diffuse pancreatic abnormality diagnosed preoperatively by using [18-F]-L-DOPA positron emission tomography (PET). The infant was referred to us for recurrent hypoglycemia. Critical blood sample revealed increased insulin: glucose ratio. DOPA PET scan revealed diffuse involvement of pancreas. Subtotal (95%;) pancreatectomy was done. Infant remained euglycemic on breast feeds at discharge.

We report our experience of 32 patients, which were subjected to Computerised tomography (CT) guided transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsy (T-FNAB) with particular reference to technique, sensitivity and complication rate following the procedure. The biopsy aspirate was obtained either using a spinal or a Chiba needle. Pneumothorax occurred in 7 patients and transient postbiopsy haemoptysis in 2 patients. None of the patients with pneumothorax or haemoptysis required any treatment.

The authors describe a technique for lumbar drain placement using CT guidance. Midline or paramidline interlaminar approaches to the thecal sac can be used. The major advantage to CT guidance is direct visualization of the needle tip in relation to the thecal sac. This technical approach is a safe and rapid alternative to fluoroscopic guidance for the placement of lumbar drains in patients in whom standard lumbar drain placement techniques have failed.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the computed tomography (CT) features of corpus luteal cysts.
METHODS: We retrospectively identified 10 patients with a diagnosis of corpus luteal cysts established by ultrasound who had also undergone contemporaneous CT. A single attending radiologist, without knowledge of other clinical or radiologic findings, recorded the morphologic features of the cysts based on the CT images.

Trauma is nowadays one of the most common causes of death and traumatic thoracic lesions are important agravant to trauma patients. In this work the aspects of computed tomography from 200 cases of thoracic trauma were studied. Lung lesions predominated, found in 192 cases (96%), manifested as contusions in 178 cases (89%), atelectasis in 41 cases (20.5%), lacerations in 15 cases (7.5%) and hematomas in 6 cases (3%).
