CONTEXT: Percutaneous epiphysiodesis (PE) around the knee to reduce predicted excessive final height. Studies until now included small numbers of patients and short follow-up periods.
OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: This Dutch multicentre, long-term, retrospective, follow-up study aimed to assess adult height (AH), complications, knee function and patient satisfaction after PE. The primary hypothesis was that PE around the knee in constitutionally tall boys and girls is an effective treatment for reducing final height with low complication rates and a high level of patient satisfaction.

This study reports on the diagnosis and treatment of chondral delamination in the knees of soccer players. The authors attempted to provide a clinical standard for comparison with emerging cartilage repair techniques. Twenty-three consecutive chondral fractures in a homogeneous population of athletes were evaluated using physical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and arthroscopic examination. All knees were treated with debridement to a stable border and removal of the calcified cartilage base. Results were graded using the scoring system advocated by proponents of chondral transplant.

UNLABELLED: Shrapnel injuries in soft tissues often do not require surgical excision. Metals that remain embedded in the surrounding tissue are not thought to cause significant damage and the patients are generally asymptomatic. This case presentation describes a patient who sustained a penetrating shrapnel injury to his thigh, where the metal fragment was not removed. However, more than 20 years later, the patient developed knee synovitis. On X-ray the shrapnel was seen in the suprapatellar pouch. An arthroscopy was preformed and the shrapnel was removed with full healing of the patient.
