PURPOSE: Preterm infants weighing less than 1500 g routinely undergo a series of eye examinations to screen for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). While these examinations are important for the prevention of blindness, infants may suffer adverse physiologic events during and after the examination. The procedure includes administration of mydriatic eye drops that may be absorbed systemically and physical manipulation of the eye that is accompanied by stress and pain. PURPOSE: Significantly increased latency of VEP assessment in various ocular and systemic disorders and discussion of VEP interpretation problems in patients with sudden loss of visual acuity.

PURPOSE: To study the effect of cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) on frequency doubling perimetry (FDP).

OBJECTIVE: Aqueous melanin granules may be accurately quantified with the laser flare-cell meter and have been demonstrated to be increased in primary pigment dispersion syndrome (PDS). We reviewed the records of all children (younger than 16 years of age) who presented with a diagnosis of optic neuritis (ON) identified through the comprehensive records-linkage system at the Mayo Clinic and identified 94 cases between 1950 and 1988 with a documented history of idiopathic ON.
