A total of 2000 fresh urine samples were collected from a central private laboratory in Tigi Conference which served all the popularity. The examination showed motile Trichomonas vaginalis in seven patients (0.35%); five females and two males, and Enterobius vermicularis in two female children (0.1%). None had urinary schistosomiasis. The data were discussed.

Infections of Trypanoxyuris spp. pinworms in Aotus nancymae and other New World primates are typically subclinical, but infection during experimental use could confound interpretation of experimental data. Further, Trypanoxyuris species are highly infective, and rapid diagnosis is important to prevent an outbreak in the animal colony. This study sought to determine whether a fecal flotation technique was sensitive enough to replace the perianal tape test for diagnosis of Trypanoxyuris spp., thereby reducing stress to the animal and sample collection time. On days 0 and 3, we collected fecal sa

A single dose of albendazole (candy) 100 mg and 100 mg qd for two days was given respectively to 135 and 321 children who were infected with Enterobius vermicularis. All cases were cured 3wk later according to perianal tape examination. The same drug of 150 mg qd and 200 mg qd for two days was administered respectively to residents with single or multi-infections of Ascaris, hookworm and Trichuris; the egg negative conversion rates of the two dosages were revealed to be 99.4% (466/469) and 99.8% (487/488) for Ascaris infection, 96.8% (91/94) and 94.3% (99/105) for hookworm infection, and 53.4%

BACKGROUND: Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) is a globally distributed intestinal nematode that primarily infects children. Despite its high prevalence, information on the molecular diversity of human-derived E. vermicularis populations remains limited, particularly in geographically diverse regions such as Türkiye. This study aimed to characterize genotype and haplotype diversity based on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene in E. vermicularis egg isolates collected from humans in different regions of Türkiye.
METHODS: A total of 71 microscopy-positive samples were an

Small bowel involvement of Enterobius vermicularis infection is exceptionally rare, with few cases reported. A female presented with persistent abdominal pain for one month. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy were unremarkable, but computed tomography revealed localized small bowel wall thickening. Laboratory tests showed elevated eosinophil counts, though parasite antibody screening was negative. Double-balloon enteroscopy identified multiple shallow ulcers and a live worm in the small intestine, confirmed as Enterobius vermicularis on pathological examination. The patient was treated with anthelmin

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the frequency of Enterobius vermicularis in appendectomy specimens and evaluate the histopathological characteristics of adult and pediatric cases with E. vermicularis infection.
METHODS: Appendectomies examined from 1 January 2010, to 1 December 2020, were analysed retrospectively. Cases were divided into two groups: under 18 years (children) and 18 and over (adults). Demographic and histopathological characteristics of patients were also examined.
RESULTS: Out of 14.797 patients that underwent appendectomy, 6.130 were children and 8.667 were adults.

We report an unusual case of extraintestinal infection with adult Enterobius vermicularis worms in the conjunctival sac of a two-and-a-half year old boy from Alipurduar, West Bengal, India. Only two other similar cases have been reported in the English literature, one from Assam, India in 1976, and the other from Illinois and California in 2011.

Pinworm infection is a very common diagnosis in young children that is not always confirmed through laboratory evaluation before empiric therapy is prescribed. This article describes a toddler who was treated several times for pinworms because small white worms were seen in her perianal area. Laboratory analysis of parasite material found in her diaper later confirmed a diagnosis of dipylidiasis. Because the signs of dipylidiasis and pinworm infection overlap and the treatments for these parasitic infections are different, the laboratory should clinically confirm suspected persistent or recurr

OBJECTIVES: We observed a cohort of children presenting with rectal bleeding that were identified as having Enterobius vermicularis at colonoscopy and questioned the reliability of conventional diagnostic methods of identifying E. vermicularis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was retrospective in nature and subjects were investigated by colonoscopy between May 1997 and December 1999. Patients were identified as having E. vermicularis infestation by direct visualisation of the adult worms at colonoscopy. Patients were treated with mebendazole and a record of their clinical response documented.

Previous studies on Gyrinicola batrachiensis indicate that these pinworms have distinct reproductive strategies dependent on the development time to metamorphosis of their anuran tadpole hosts. In tadpoles of amphibian species with short developmental periods (a few weeks), female nematodes reproduce parthenogenetically, and only produce thick-shelled eggs used as transmission agents from tadpole to tadpole. In contrast, nematodes in tadpoles with longer larval developmental periods (months to years) reproduce by haplodiploidy, and females produce thick-shelled as well as autoinfective thin-sh

AIM: To propose an aetiology and treatment for distressing perineal and vaginal pain in a paediatric female population.
METHODS: Between 1997 and 2011, we saw 24 prepubertal girls (mean age of seven years, 11 months) with distressing vaginal pain, both before and after we suspected that pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis) were the cause.
RESULTS: Prior to 2005, two of six girls had resolution of their symptoms, one of whom had repeated courses of mebendazole. After 2005, when pinworms were discovered in one patient, treatment with mebendazole 100 mg weekly for three weeks resolved symptoms in

A total of Eight hundred eighty-six children from 3 to 7 years old in 8 kindergartens were sampled in urban and rural area in Xianyang City from March to May 2012. The cellophane tape swab technique was used to examine pinworm eggs. Children's hygiene habits, clinical symptoms and hygienic condition were surveyed by questionnairing. The total infection rate of pinworm was 11.2% (99/886). The rate in males and females was 10.4% (52/500) and 12.2% (47/386), respectively. The infection rate in rural kindergartens (19.1%, 70/367) was higher than that of urban kindergartens (5.6%, 29/519) (chi2 = 3

Pinworms (Nematoda: Oxyurida) are common contaminants in most laboratory rodent colonies. The aim of the study was to monitor the transmission of Syphacia muris eggs in laboratory rat breeding facilities. Dust in a breeding room was investigated using special grids (free fallout, or through the help suction chamber). Furthermore, the ventilation system, breeding cages and the hands of the laboratory technical staff were examined. In the case of free fallout, the percentage of positive grids increased slightly over time: from 5.5% (after 24 h) to 8.2% (72 h). Similar values were also found when

Seven hundred and ninety-eight preschool children and grade one pupils from three schools in the city of Shangqiu were sampled randomly in urban, suburban and rural areas. The transparent tape method was used to examine the infection of pinworm and the contamination of pinworm eggs on the environments. The average infection rate of pinworm was 9.9% (79/798). The prevalence of pinworm infection among the pupils of urban(4.6%) was statistically lower than those of suburban (11.2%) and rural (13.8%) (P < 0.01). The contamination rate of pinworm eggs from armor, fingers, bedclothes, briefs, and sta

From 1,600 surgically removed appendices, 24 (1.5%) were found to have helminths. Enterobius vermicularis was observed in 23 of the 24 specimens (95.8%) and Taenia sp was detected in only 1 (4.2%) case. Sixteen patients (66.7%) were less than 10 year-old; 15 patients were male and 9 female. Pathologic analysis disclosed acute neutrophilic inflammation in 12 cases and lymphoid hyperplasia in 10 of the 24 appendices. Gangrenous appendicitis was diagnosed in 3 cases and peritonitis was found in 11 of the 24 infested appendices. Parasitic infection of the appendix is an uncommon cause of acute app
