Three-year duration of immunity for feline herpesvirus and calicivirus evaluated in a controlled vaccination-challenge laboratory trial.

Feline vaccination guidelines recommend less frequent boosters for the core vaccines (rhinotracheitis, calicivirosis and infectious panleucopenia). Most guidelines recommend boosters at 3-yearly intervals after a basic vaccination including primary vaccination and revaccination one year later. The objective of this study was to assess the duration of immunity induced by PUREVAX(®) RCPCh FeLV, a non-adjuvanted vaccine against feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirosis, infectious panleucopenia, chlamydiosis and leukemia. After primary vaccination followed by revaccination one year later with a vacci

Bactericidal antibody persistence 2 years after immunization with 2 investigational serogroup B meningococcal vaccines at 6, 8 and 12 months and immunogenicity of preschool booster doses: a follow-on study to a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: In a previous study, 60 infants receiving an investigational serogroup B meningococcal vaccine containing recombinant meningococcal proteins alone (rMenB) or combined with an outer membrane vesicle from Neisseria meningitidis (4CMenB) at 6, 8 and 12 months of age produced serum bactericidal antibodies (SBAs) against meningococcal strains expressing vaccine antigens. We studied persistence of this response and the response to a booster dose of vaccine. METHODS: In this extension study, SBA titers were evaluated before and after a booster dose of rMenB or 4CMenB at 40 months of age.

Baseline mycobacterial immune responses in HIV-infected adults primed with bacille Calmette-Guérin during childhood and entering a tuberculosis booster vaccine trial.

BACKGROUND: Most new tuberculosis vaccines will be administered as a booster to subjects primed with bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) during childhood. METHODS: We investigated in vivo and in vitro immune responses to mycobacteria in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive subjects in Tanzania primed with BCG during childhood and entering a tuberculosis booster vaccine trial. Tests included intradermal skin testing for Mycobacterium tuberculosis purified protein derivative (PPD) and Mycobacterium avium sensitin (MAS); lymphocyte proliferation assays and interferon (IFN)-gamma levels after st

[Influence of information campaigns on the vaccination immunity among the population of a small town area - seroepidemiological results of the 'Wittlich Vaccination Study'].

In the course of the three-phase 'Wittlich Vaccination Study' the population immunity against tetanus, diphtheria and poliomyelitis was controlled in all age groups of the regional population. Antibody measuring was done in specific validated enzyme immunoassays and neutralisation tests. After performing several campaigns for training and informing medical staff and the population about vaccinations the effect of these campaigns was checked in an additional control of the population immunity. The part of not or only partially protected participants decreased for tetanus from 36.7 % to 2.8 % an

The immunization of children with combined diphtheria and tetanus vaccine in Sweden.

Two groups derived from 97 children three-four months of age were vaccinated with diphtheria and tetanus vaccines containing either a routinely prepared diphtheria toxoid or a more purified preparation. Two injections were given with an interval of one month and a third injection was given one year after the first. Prior to the third injection no child was without protection against diphtheria, i.e. had an antitoxin titre less than 0.01 IU ml-1. After the third injection 95 and 94% of the children vaccinated with the routinely and more purified diphtheria toxoids, respectively, had diphtheria

Validation of a yellow fever vaccine model using data from primary vaccination in children and adults, re-vaccination and dose-response in adults and studies with immunocompromised individuals.

BACKGROUND: An effective yellow fever (YF) vaccine has been available since 1937. Nevertheless, questions regarding its use remain poorly understood, such as the ideal dose to confer immunity against the disease, the need for a booster dose, the optimal immunisation schedule for immunocompetent, immunosuppressed, and pediatric populations, among other issues. This work aims to demonstrate that computational tools can be used to simulate different scenarios regarding YF vaccination and the immune response of individuals to this vaccine, thus assisting the response of some of these open question

Health economic evaluation of current vaccination strategies and new vaccines against tuberculosis: a systematic review.

Introduction: Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is the only licensed vaccine for tuberculosis, but its effectiveness is limited and varies by age. New candidate vaccines are currently being investigated. In response to the declining incidence of TB, practices relating to BCG vaccination have changed in various countries in recent years. A valid cost-effectiveness study is therefore needed in order to assist decision-makers in the implementation of cost-effective strategies for BCG vaccination. Areas covered: Studies involving economic evaluations of BCG vaccination were reviewed in order to prese

Safety and Immunogenicity of a Heterologous Prime-Boost Ebola Virus Vaccine Regimen in Healthy Adults in the United Kingdom and Senegal.

BACKGROUND: The 2014 West African outbreak of Ebola virus disease highlighted the urgent need to develop an effective Ebola vaccine. METHODS: We undertook 2 phase 1 studies assessing safety and immunogenicity of the viral vector modified vaccinia Ankara virus vectored Ebola Zaire vaccine (MVA-EBO-Z), manufactured rapidly on a new duck cell line either alone or in a heterologous prime-boost regimen with recombinant chimpanzee adenovirus type 3 vectored Ebola Zaire vaccine (ChAd3-EBO-Z) followed by MVA-EBO-Z. Adult volunteers in the United Kingdom (n = 38) and Senegal (n = 40) were vaccinated a

IFN-α Boosting of Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette Güerin-Vaccine Promoted Th1 Type Cellular Response and Protection against M. tuberculosis Infection.

The role of type I IFNs in the pathogenesis and control of mycobacterial infection is still controversial. It has been reported that type I IFNs exacerbated M. tuberculosis infection through hampering Th1 type cellular immune response. However, under certain conditions they can act as natural immune adjuvants for commercial vaccines. At this point, we have reported recently that successive IFN-alpha boosting of Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette Güerin (BCG) vaccinated mice protected adult mice from intradermal M. lepraemurium infection and a difference in iNOS was observed. In the present

Meningococcal vaccine: New product, new recommendations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that all adolescents aged 11 to 12 years receive a quadrivalent, conjugate meningococcal vaccine (MCV-4). With time, universal administration of meningococcal vaccine for this age group will make moot the question of whether entering college freshmen should receive meningococcal vaccine. It should lead to a marked reduction in a potentially catastrophic disease and contribute to the continued decline in morbidity and mortality from bacterial meningitis in the United States, which has largely been due to advances in vaccine technolog

[Representative early summer meningoencephalitis vaccination rates of school children in Styria].

Since the introduction of the Austrian TBE (tick-borne encephalitis) vaccination program in 1981 immunization coverage of children has not been investigated sufficiently. We investigated the influence of geographic and sociodemographic factors on the immunization coverage of school children in order to identify subpopulations with low immunization coverage. To this end a representative cross-sectional study was carried out in the county of Styria, Austria. The target population were children in the first, fourth and seventh year of school education. Therefore, the sample consisting of 3,196 ch

Suppression of primary and secondary antibody responses and inhibition of antigen priming during Babesia microti infections in mice.

The antibody response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) has been measured in C57Bl mice infected with the intra-erythrocytic piroplasm Babesia microti. The primary antibody response is severely reduced or abolished when antigen is administered at the time of maximum parasitaemia. The secondary antibody response of infected mice, which had been primed with SRBC, is reduced but retains the characteristics of a secondary response. Mice injected with SRBC at maximum parasitaemia failed to become primed to that antigen: these mice gave a primary antibody response to a second injection of SRBC given a

Incidence and type of reactions to triple antigen (DTP) and DT (CDT) vaccines.

Local and general reactions were significantly more common in infants given DTP (triple antigen) vaccine than in those given DT (diphtheria and tetanus) vaccine. In 7712 DTP immunisations and 335 DT immunisations studied prospectively, local reaction rates were 47.8% and 33.7%, and general reaction rates were 38.4% and 10.1% respectively. The most commonly reported general reactions after both vaccines were irritability and fever. Persistent screaming was reported in 7.4% and 1.5% of vaccinees, and pallor or hyporesponsiveness in 1% and 0.3% respectively. Two infants developed convulsions and

[Results of simplified immunization schedules in the developing countries].

The results of studies on the immunization of people in developing countries with vaccines adsorbed on calcium phosphate are presented in this paper. Several programs which were studied with various organizations cooperating and which were intended to simplify vaccination campaigns brought us to the following conclusions: --that immunization against diphtheria and tetanus by two injections with an interval of one year between them is effective, --that two injections of inactivated trivalent poliomyelitis vaccine followed up by booster one year later ensure that 90% of the infants are protected

[Impact of SARS-CoV-2 immunization on a breast screening programme.].

OBJECTIVE: A common secondary effect after SARS-CoV-2 immunization is an increased in size of the axillary lymph nodes ipsilateral to the vaccinated site. Eventually, an increased in size of the axillary lymph nodes may lead to a misinterpretation of the breast screening mammogram, performed in asymptomatic women between the age 50 to 69 years old for early breast cancer diagnosis. The aim of our research was to evaluate the impact of the vaccination for SARS-CoV-2 in the breast screening programmes in terms of recall rates and number of false positive results. As a secondary purpose we would
