[Radiation-induced Favre-Racouchot disease].

A 71-year-old man presented with disfiguring skin changes of the nose and cheek. The patient had undergone a surgery of a malignant melanoma of the right paranasal sinus and then 5 months later received radiation therapy with 60 Gy total dose to the endonasal area. Physical examination revealed elastosis, open and closed comedones, and cysts in the field of radiation exposure. Taking in account the exclusive affection of the irradiated skin, we diagnosed a radiation-induced Favre-Racouchot disease. We recommended topical treatment with vitamin A derivatives in combination with physical comedo

Adverse mucocutaneous reactions related to chemotherapeutic agents: part II.

Events and reactions involving chemotherapy are common in clinical oncology. Chemotherapeutic agents are widely used in therapy. Side effects range from the common to the rare and may be confused with other mucocutaneous manifestations resulting from the oncological treatment. The objective of this paper was to present data on skin reactions to chemotherapy, particularly those cases in which the dermatologist is requested to issue a report and asked to comment on the safety and viability of readministration of a specific drug. The authors describe aspects associated with these events, presenti

Fluoroscopic-induced radiation dermatitis.

A case of radiation dermatitis following fluoroscopy is described. Radiation dermatitis occurs rarely after fluoroscopic procedures and may pose a diagnostic challenge. Many patients do not consider fluoroscopy to be a source of radiation exposure, and clinicians may be confused by its unusual presentation.

Possible leakage radiation during malfunctioning of a Sagittaire accelerator.

A non-fatal accident with a CGR-Sagittaire accelerator in the Dr Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center (DDHCC) in Rotterdam in 1988 is described. In a period with frequently occurring technical problems, a patient, undergoing fractionated treatment at this accelerator for prostatic cancer, developed severe skin reactions on the right half ventral part of thorax, head and upper arm. The skin reactions suggested an irradiation with a dose of up to 10-20 Gy, so it was likely that a radiation accident had occurred caused by leakage radiation. A number of experiments were performed in attempting to explain

[Late radiation injuries of the skin and underlying tissues in the treatment of oncological patients].

Based on 3594 case reports of patients, who received radiotherapy for malignant tumors 5 years or more ago, there was determined the incidence rate of different forms of late skin radiation injuries amounting to 41.5%. A considerable number of patients with late radiation injuries and the enhanced intensity of pathological changes in the irradiation zone with the lapse of time enabled raising a question on the organization of preventive therapy in the country. It is considered necessary to provide the dispensary control of all patients, subjected to radiotherapy, and to keep records of this co
