Outer Retinal Abnormalities in a Patient with Danon Disease.

PURPOSE: To report outer retinal abnormalities evaluated using high-resolution imaging modalities in a patient with Danon disease. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A 26-year-old woman, diagnosed with Danon disease based on genetic testing, was referred to our department for further evaluation of ocular findings. Her best-corrected VA was 20/20, and color vision was normal. Fundus examination revealed pigmentary changes consisting of mottled depigmentation and pigmentation in the peripheral retina of both eyes. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography revealed disruptions of the ellipsoid a

Intravascular Imaging vs Angiography Guidance for PCI of Severely Calcified Lesions: The ECLIPSE Trial.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined whether intravascular imaging (IVI) guidance during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of calcified lesions improves clinical outcomes. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine from a large-scale randomized trial of PCI in severely calcified lesions whether IVI guidance improves event-free survival. METHODS: In the ECLIPSE (Evaluation of Treatment Strategies for Severe Calcific Coronary Arteries: Orbital Atherectomy vs. Conventional Angioplasty Technique Prior to Implantation of Drug-Eluting Stents) trial, 2,005 patients with severely cal

Neointimal tissue characteristics following sirolimus-eluting stent implantation: OCT quantitative tissue property analysis.

The neointimal tissue characteristics inside sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) were evaluated by optical coherence tomography (OCT) according to follow-up duration. One hundred and thirty-three Optical coherence tomography was performed in 96 patients with 143 SES which were retrospectively included and divided into 2 groups according to follow-up duration: Group 1, <24 months (98 stents in 71 patients); Group 2, >24 months (35 stents in 25 patients). The neointimal tissue coverage pattern and characteristics were studied using a new OCT analysis system which can quantitatively analyze tissue prop

Application of Trichoscopy and Novel Non-Invasive Imaging Techniques in the Diagnosis and Management of Patients with Scalp Psoriasis.

Scalp psoriasis affects up to 80% of patients with psoriasis and possesses a significant challenge as a difficult-to-treat area. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed using relevant keywords to identify recent studies focusing on scalp psoriasis diagnosis and treatment. The diagnosis is mainly based on clinical evaluation and trichoscopy. Other diagnostic tools, such as histopathology, optical coherence tomography, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) may offer valuable insights in doubtful cases. Topical therap

Heart-Shaped Subhyaloid Haemorrhage in Valsalva Retinopathy With Successful Delayed Minimally Invasive Management.

Valsalva retinopathy is a recognised cause of acute painless visual loss resulting from a sudden increase in intrathoracic or intra-abdominal pressure, leading to subhyaloid haemorrhage. While most reported cases describe rounded or boat-shaped haemorrhages, atypical morphologies documented with multimodal imaging are infrequently reported. We describe a 45-year-old female with long-standing insulin-treated diabetes mellitus who developed sudden visual blurring following a violent coughing episode. Fundoscopic examination revealed a sharply demarcated, heart-shaped subhyaloid haemorrhage invol

Case Report: Perifoveal exudative vascular anomalous complex with secondary fundus hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND: Perifoveal exudative vascular anomalous complex (PEVAC) is a rare macular disorder characterized by isolated, circular aneurysmal lesions surrounding the fovea centralis, typically occurring in otherwise healthy patients without retinal inflammation or vascular abnormalities. This study aimed to highlight a rare case of PEVAC with secondary fundus hemorrhage. CASE PRESENTATION: This study reports the case of a 44-year-old Chinese woman with PEVAC complicated by secondary fundus hemorrhage. The PEVAC diagnosis was confirmed through fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green

PURPOSE: To report the finding of a hyperreflective ganglion cell layer band (HGB) in a genetically confirmed case of isolated NCL3-associated retinal degeneration. METHODS: Multimodal imaging, including ultra-widefield fundus photography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used to assess findings. RESULTS: A 21-year-old male with progressive vision loss since age 6 presented with light perception vision, nyctalopia, and photophobia. Recent advances in corneal neovascularization imaging.

Corneal neovascularization (CoNV) is a vision-threatening ocular disease commonly secondary to infectious, inflammatory, and traumatic etiologies. Slit lamp photography, in vivo confocal microscopy, angiography, and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) are the primary diagnostic tools utilized in clinical practice to evaluate the vasculature of the ocular surface. However, there is currently a dearth of comprehensive literature that reviews the advancements in imaging technology for CoNV administration. Initially designed for retinal vascular imaging, OCTA has now been expanded to t

Stepwise approach for fundus imaging in the diagnosis and management of posterior uveitis.

An array of retinochoroid imaging modalities aid in comprehensive evaluation of the immunopathological changes in the retina and choroid, forming the core component for the diagnosis and management of inflammatory disorders such as uveitis. The recent technological breakthroughs have led to the development of imaging platforms that can evaluate the layers of retina and choroid and the structural and functional alteration in these tissues. Ophthalmologists heavily rely on imaging modalities such as dye-based angiographies (fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography), optical cohe

POLYPOIDAL CHOROIDAL VASCULOPATHY ASSOCIATED WITH SECTOR RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA.

PURPOSE: To report a case of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy associated with sector retinitis pigmentosa. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A 63-years-old woman presented with complaints of having painless progressive reduction of vision in the left eye (LE) for the past 6 months. On examination, her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in the right eye and 20/125 in the LE. Based on fundus examination and multimodal imaging findings, both eyes were diagnosed to have sector retinitis pigmentosa, and an associated active extramacular polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy was seen in the LE. ASSOCIATION BETWEEN CHOROIDAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SYSTEMIC SEVERITY IN AMYLOIDOSIS.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to describe the choroidal features of ocular amyloidosis using multimodal imaging, to correlate these findings with systemic involvement, and to propose a choroidal grading system. METHODS: Eleven patients with systemic amyloidosis were reviewed retrospectively. Each case was assigned a grade according to the severity of choroidal findings as determined by both enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography and indocyanine green angiography. The severity of systemic amyloidosis was then correlated with the choroidal involvement. RESULTS: On indocyanine green an

Current concepts on ocular vascular abnormalities in the phakomatoses.

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromatosis, Von Hippel Lindau disease, and tuberous sclerosis complex are classified under the term phakomatoses. They are characterized by ocular vascular abnormalities such as vascular tortuosity, corkscrew retinal vessel configuration, moyamoya-like aspect, microaneurysms, hemangioblastomas, and focal sheathing of retinal arteries, possibly due to abnormal formation, migration, and differentiation of neural crest cells. These alterations can be the first sign or the hallmark of disease and can be related to vasoproliferative tumors. PURPOSE: Novel imaging technologies in
