BACKGROUND: The development of frameless stereotaxis allows for repetitive intraoperative localization with millimeter accuracy. High-resolution computed tomographic (CT) angiography provides multiplanar, three-dimensional imaging of cerebral vascular lesions. Accurate measurement of small intestinal digestibility is important in dogs because it allows the formulation of pet foods that provide optimal nutrition at minimal cost. The development of implantable defibrillators with single lead systems has necessitated the need for larger transvenous electrodes. This article describes a modified Seldinger technique that can be used when the cephalic vein is too small to allow passage of these larger leads. A new prototype laryngeal mask airway is described which incorporates a second mask to isolate the upper oesophagus and a second dorsal cuff to increase the seal against the glottis. During a 5-year period 32 children and adolescents 4 to 18 years old underwent 35 extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL*) treatments for 37 calculi. Internal urinary diversion of chronic ureteral obstruction is not sufficient in as many as 60% of patients because of tumor compression, catheter kinking, or a small stent lumen.
