During the months of October and November 1977, 560 children aged between three and five attending some kindergartens of Milan were studied to evaluate the diffusion of intestinal parasitic infections. The extra intestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease (CD) are not devoid of interest. They can, by themselves, aggravate the CD. A group of 21 patients with immunoproliferative small intestinal disease (IPSID), 10 with alpha heavy chain paraproteinaemia and 11 without it, were HLA typed. The results were compared with 35 disease controls and 120 normal controls. A significant increase of Aw19 and B12 antigens was noted among the patients compared with the control subjects. The high rate of association of both AW19 and B12 antigens in patients as compared with controls suggests a possible haplotype (Aw19, B12) association with IPSID.

In pregnancies complicated by hydramnios, amniography can be used for the detection of fetal gastrointestinal obstruction. A case is presented in which the appearance of contrast material in the fetal gastrointestinal tract was noted in an infant who proved to have esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula. Presumably, the contrast reached the intestinal tract by aspiration and passage through the fistula.

The effect of pyridoxine deficiency was studied on the intestinal alkaline phosphatase of rat. Different segments of the intestine differed in their response to pyridoxine deficiency. In the duodenum alkaline phosphatase activity was decreased, whereas it was markedly increased in the ileum and the jejunal enzyme was least affected. The electrophoretic pattern of isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase was altered in the ileum of B6 deficient rats.
