A 70-year-old man was diagnosed with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) complicated by ureteral obstruction 4 months after finishing radiotherapy for prostate cancer. He was treated conservatively with ureteral stent placement. After 3 months, computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed resolution of RPF without any medical or surgical interventions. Although an uncommon event, the possibility of spontaneous resolution of RPF, as demonstrated by this and previously reported cases, has led some to encourage conservative management.

PURPOSE: To report a patient with a tumor-like corneal keloid.
METHODS: Retrospective review of clinical features and histopathologic findings.
RESULTS: A 68-year-old woman with a remote history of an orbital tumor treated with radiation developed a corneal tumor. A biopsy of the tumor showed fibrocellular tissue, and her blind painful eye was enucleated. Pathologic findings in the enucleated eye showed that the corneal mass was consistent with a large keloid.
CONCLUSIONS: A corneal keloid may clinically appear as a large corneal tumor.

Most, but not all, studies find an association between impotence and dosimetric parameters (e.g., threshold doses) and clinical factors (e.g., age, comorbid diseases). Neuroendocrine disturbances in anterior pituitary hormone secretion are common following radiation damage to the hypothalamic-pituitary (H-P) axis, the severity and frequency of which correlate with the total radiation dose delivered to the H-P axis and the length of follow-up. The somatotropic axis is the most vulnerable to radiation damage and GH deficiency remains the most frequently seen endocrinopathy. Compensatory hyperstimulation of a partially damaged somatotropic axis may restore normality of spontaneous GH secretion in the context of reduced but normal stimulated responses in adults.

BACKGROUND: Soft tissue radiation necrosis (STRN) is effectively treated with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO,), believed to result from stimulation ofangiogenesis in radiation-injured tissue. Thirty to forty HBO2 treatments are usually recommended for STRN. For various reasons, different hyperbaric facilities offer these treatments once or twice daily and from 5-7 days weekly. It is not known whether the clinical response differs as a result of the rate of administration of HBO2 treatments.
