OBJECTIVE: To determine whether interleukin-8 (IL-8) serum levels are correlated with pelvic pain in patients with ovarian endometriomas.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Tertiary-care university hospital.
PATIENT(S): Interleukin-8 serum levels were prospectively analyzed in 51 patients (group A, asymptomatic patients or patients with mild dysmenorrhea; group B, severe dysmenorrhea and/or chronic pelvic pain and/or dyspareunia) who underwent surgery for cystic ovarian endometriosis to asses whether a correlation exists between IL-8 serum levels and pelvic pain.

A PCR detection based on 16S-23S rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of Klebsiella pneumoniae was developed in the present study. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate antibiotic prescription in a French university hospital.
DESIGN: Our hospital participated in an international European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption (ESAC) project study, including a longitudinal survey of monthly antibiotic use between 1998 and 2005, and a point prevalence study in 2006. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 250 infant patients from newborn to 2 years of age were evaluated from the outpatient clinics of paediatrics and dermatology departments, Fatih University Hospital.
