OBJECTIVE: Cervical cancer is currently the most frequently occurring cancer among women in Mexico. Mexican cervical cancer prevention programs have been unsatisfactory in part because the tests used to diagnose precursor lesions have poor reproducibility. The implementation of specific biomarkers may overcome these limitations. Here, we analyzed whether immunohistochemistry for p16(INK4a) could improve the reproducibility of histopathological diagnoses of cervical precancerous lesions.

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of oncotic colpocytology stained with Harris-Shorr in the identification of the cervicovaginal microflora and infectious agents. Results of microbiologic evaluation carried out in colpocytology exams, bacterioscopy (Gram), and direct exams of 2,017 women aged from 13 to 80 years were compared. PURPOSE: To report a new technique to visualize bleb leakage using indocyanine green (ICG) staining during trabeculectomy.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The ICG solution was widely applied over the filtering bleb including the conjunctival wound before completion of trabeculectomy. This procedure was performed in 48 eyes of 44 consecutive patients undergoing trabeculectomy between December 2004 and October 2005.

Diffuse nonmeconium-related pigment was observed in the chorioamnion of 36 of 1,023 placentas over 4 years and evaluated by iron staining. Stains were negative in 13 cases and positive in chorionic plate and membranes (diffuse chorioamnionic hemosiderosis [DCH]) in 23 cases (3/1,000 deliveries; 25/1,000 placentas).
