During the last three years, eleven lateral upper arm flaps were used in the reconstruction of skin defects of the upper limb. These flaps were applied: 7 times on the hand; 2 times on the fore-arm; 2 times on the elbow. Ten flaps had a free transfer, one was vascularised by the distal pedicle. In 4 cases we used an emergency free transfer in the treatment of a traumatic defect. In the other cases the flaps were used in the treatment of post-traumatic sequelae such as contracture and/or osteitis. The series contains 10 fascio-cutaneous flaps and 1 osteo-cutaneous flap. The direct effect of pinacidil on contractile protein systems and the relationship between its vasodilating effects and intracellular Ca2+ concentration were studied in isolated smooth muscle of guinea pigs. The etiology of the foot deformity in patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease has not previously been discussed in relation to the extrinsic muscle function around the foot and ankle. Agreement among six physicians for 18 clinical signs in 50 alcoholic patients was prospectively studied. Twenty patients had alcoholic cirrhosis, 14 noncirrhotic alcoholic liver disease, and 16 alcoholics had no clinical or biochemical abnormalities. We performed a prospective study of the effects of radial keratotomy in the owl monkey. We compared a 16-incision and an eight-incision radial keratotomy, and followed the changes in corneal curvature, corneal thickness, endothelial cell counts, and intraocular pressure. This is a report on two autopsy cases of congenital muscular dystrophy associated with micropolygyria. The first case was that of an 11-year-old boy and the other of a 22-year-old male adult. Both cases had similar clinical features, very early onset of disease, diffuse and extensive wasting of skeletal muscles including facial muscles, contracture of joints, hypotonia and mental retardation. Certain postfacial palsy phenomena--'facial contracture', 'crocodile tears', etc.--have been examined in relation to faulty misrouting of the nerve fibers, which thus far has been offered as an explanation for such phenomena.
