Effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy-related pain: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common, distressing, adverse effect of neurotoxic chemotherapy that can persist post-treatment, and may affect therapy and daily functioning. Pharmacological options remain limited; therefore, non-pharmacological strategies are increasingly used. However, their comparative effectiveness remains unclear. We aimed to compare and rank the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for CIPN-related pain. METHOD: We conducted a systematic review and frequentist network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomised controlled trials (RCTs)

Deep-learning synthetized 4DCT from 4DMRI of the abdominal site in carbon-ion radiotherapy.

PURPOSE: To investigate the feasibility of deep-learning-based synthetic 4DCT (4D-sCT) generation from 4DMRI data of abdominal patients undergoing Carbon Ion Radiotherapy (CIRT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 3-channel conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN) was trained and tested on twenty-six patients, using paired T1-weighted 4DMRI and 4DCT volumes. 4D-sCT data were generated via the cGAN following a 3-channels segmentation approach (air, bone, soft tissue) in two scenarios: (a) 4DCT-based approach (i.e. segmentation relying on 4DCT) and (b) 4DMRI-based approach (i.e. manual segmentati

Variability in Cystatin C- and Creatinine-estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate in Adults With Spina Bifida.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if serum cystatin C, which does not depend on muscle mass, is a potential alternative measure of kidney function in individuals with Spina Bifida and lower urinary tract dysfunction. Assessment using serum creatinine to estimate glomerular filtration rate is often compromised in this population because of decreased muscle mass from paralysis, which varies over spinal lesion levels and sub-phenotypes. We hypothesized creatinine-based formulas overestimate glomerular filtration rate at higher lesion levels relative to cystatin C-based formulas, and cystatin C-based equati

Multiview Feature Learning With Multiatlas-Based Functional Connectivity Networks for MCI Diagnosis.

Functional connectivity (FC) networks built from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) has shown promising results for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and its prodromal stage, that is, mild cognitive impairment (MCI). FC is usually estimated as a temporal correlation of regional mean rs-fMRI signals between any pair of brain regions, and these regions are traditionally parcellated with a particular brain atlas. Most existing studies have adopted a predefined brain atlas for all subjects. However, the constructed FC networks inevitably ignore the potentially importa

Does the impact of a plant-based diet during pregnancy on birth weight differ by ethnicity? A dietary pattern analysis from a prospective Canadian birth cohort alliance.

OBJECTIVE: Birth weight is an indicator of newborn health and a strong predictor of health outcomes in later life. Significant variation in diet during pregnancy between ethnic groups in high-income countries provides an ideal opportunity to investigate the influence of maternal diet on birth weight. SETTING: Four multiethnic birth cohorts based in Canada (the NutriGen Alliance). PARTICIPANTS: 3997 full-term mother-infant pairs of diverse ethnic groups who had principal component analysis-derived diet pattern scores-plant-based, Western and health-conscious-and birth weight data. RESULTS: N

Quality standards for the diagnosis and management of ATTR and AL amyloidosis: a nominal group technique study.

BACKGROUND: Transthyretin (ATTR) and immunoglobulin light-chain (AL) amyloidosis are progressive conditions that can have debilitating effects on people. Delayed diagnosis and variable access to high-quality care continue to affect quality of life and prognosis. Clear and ambitious quality standards could drive consistent care and improve outcomes. METHODS: A modified nominal group technique was used to develop consensus-based quality standards for the diagnosis and management of ATTR and AL amyloidosis. Eighteen experts participated, including patient representatives and clinicians from high

Structure-Dependent Effects of Lipid Conjugation on Cytosolic Accumulation in Escherichia coli and Mammalian Cells.

Lipidation is a widely used strategy to promote membrane permeation, yet whether the factors governing lipid-driven accumulation are shared across mammalian and Gram-negative envelopes remains unresolved. Here, we apply the chloroalkane azide-based membrane penetration (CHAMP) assay to a systematically designed library of lipid conjugates in both HeLa and E. coli cells. CHAMP, developed by our group, pairs a minimally disruptive azide tag with a cytosolically anchored HaloTag to quantify cytosolic accumulation directly. The two systems show divergent trends: most lipid modifications reduce E.

Camera-Based Respiratory Imaging System for Monitoring Infant Thoracoabdominal Patterns of Respiration.

Existing respiratory monitoring techniques primarily focus on respiratory rate measurement, neglecting the potential of using thoracoabdominal patterns of respiration for infant lung health assessment. To bridge this gap, we exploit the unique advantage of spatial redundancy of a camera sensor to analyze the infant thoracoabdominal respiratory motion. Specifically, we propose a camera-based respiratory imaging (CRI) system that utilizes optical flow to construct a spatio-temporal respiratory imager for comparing the infant chest and abdominal respiratory motion, and employs deep learning algor

GenoME: a MoE-based generative model for individualized, multimodal prediction and perturbation of genomic profiles.

The non-coding genome operates through a complex, multiscale regulatory system where regulated gene expressions are closely associated with cell-type-specific histone modifications, transcription factor binding, and 3D conformation. Developing computational models that can integrate these patterns to predict and interpret the regulatory system remains challenging. Here, we present GenoME, a Mixture of Experts (MoE)-based generative model that uses DNA sequence and cell-type-specific ATAC-seq signals to predict a unified genomic profiles encompassing epigenomics, transcriptomics, and chromatin

Secure control of networked switched systems against directed deception attack: A Stackelberg game with nested bi-objective PSO.

This paper addresses the secure control problem of networked switched systems (NSSs) under directed deception attack (DDA). Such attacks are characterized by first determining the deception mode that causes the greatest disruption, followed by jointly optimizing the switching signal tampering rate and state injection. To capture this, a Stackelberg-based hierarchical decision model is established to characterize the interaction between DDA and the secure controller. Novel cost functions are designed to explicitly capture the coupled impact of simultaneous attacks on both the switching signal a

An improved seam carving method for enhancing the visual field of tunnel vision patients.

Visual impairment has various forms all of which negatively affect the patient's daily activities and prevent performing simple actions like walking safely in a street. Content-aware image retargeting can be used to enhance the scene for patients who have limited visual field i.e. tunnel vision. A modified Seam Carving method is presented in this research paper which can decrease the width of the input image to fit in the patient's angle of vision while preserving the important objects in the original image as well as the image details. The method enhanced the original Seam Carving by calculat

Improved CenterNet-Based Multimodal Object Detection for Low-Light and Complex Environments.

To address insufficient detail representation, inadequate cross-modal fusion, and limited localization accuracy in object detection under low-light and complex background conditions, this study proposes an improved CenterNet-based multimodal object detection method. The model uses fused images and infrared images as dual-source inputs, where infrared wavelet priors are introduced to enhance texture and structural representation. A Feature Fusion Attention (FFA) module is designed to improve cross-modal feature interaction, while a Heatmap-Guided Detection Head (HGDH) is introduced to explicitl

Lattice-confined Ce-O-Mn pairs in anatase TiO2 for superior N2 selectivity during photo-assisted NH3-SCR deNOx.

The atomic dispersion of Mn has been increasingly recognized as a critical factor governing N2 selectivity in NH3-SCR deNOx. However, supported single-atom and diatomic Mn-based catalysts are prone to aggregation during long-term operation in the presence of O2, leading to deteriorated selectivity. Herein, stable Ce-O-Mn metal pairs were constructed in anatase TiO2 through a stress-compensation effect. The catalyst with 4.80% Ce and 1.20% Mn achieves ∼100% NOx conversion and maintains N2 selectivity > 84.0% in 150-300°C under illumination (WHSV = 60000 mL·g-1·h-1). Compared with Mn-doped TiO2,

Addressing genetic diversity and health inequities: RELIVAF's proposal for Latin American pharmacogenomic guidelines.

Latin America's exceptional genetic diversity, shaped by centuries of admixture among Native American, European, and African ancestries, presents both challenges and opportunities for pharmacogenomic implementation. Current guidelines by CPIC and DPWG, though foundational, are largely based on European and East Asian data, limiting their applicability in highly admixed populations. This article presents the rationale and methodology of RELIVAF (Latin American Network for the Implementation and Validation of Pharmacogenomic Clinical Guidelines), which aims to produce region-specific recommendat

Quantifying Inter- and Intramolecular Interactions in Liquids with Correlated Vibrational Spectroscopy: Case Study of CCl4 and CH3CN.

Correlated vibrational spectroscopy (CVS) is a hyper-Raman-based vibrational spectroscopy that retrieves separate spectra of individual (self-correlated, SC) and interacting (cross-correlated, CC) molecules. The spectra are recorded in the >40 cm-1 THz/mid-IR frequency range and contain modes that are IR and/or Raman active. Here, we further develop CVS and apply it to investigate intra- and intermolecular interactions using room temperature liquid carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), a nonpolar liquid, and acetonitrile (CH3CN), a polar liquid, as case studies. CVS spectra of CCl4 display no intermole

End-to-end multimodal pathology foundation model with clinical dialogue.

Recent rapid progress in the field of computational pathology has been enabled by foundation models. These models are beginning to move beyond encoding image patches toward whole-slide understanding, but their clinical utility remains limited. Here we present PRISM2, a multimodal slide-level foundation model trained on 2.3 million whole-slide images and 14 million question-answer pairs derived from 700,000 pathology reports. Through clinical dialogue supervision, PRISM2 aligns histomorphology with diagnostic reasoning, yielding representations that support both prompt-based inference and trans

Taxonomic revision on the genus Abbottina Jordan & Fowler, 1903 (Cypriniformes, Gobionidae).

The genus Abbottina Jordan & Fowler, 1903 comprises small benthic gobionid fishes widely distributed in East Asia. However, due to the unclear generic characteristics as defined in the original description, the taxonomic status of the species within this genus remains controversial, and its definition needs clarification. This study examined the morphology of the type species, Abbottina rivularis (Basilewsky, 1855), to more accurately redefine generic characteristics. The genus Abbottina can be distinguished from all other gobionid genera by the following characteristics: mouth inferior; lips

An unusual combination of latent autoimmune diabetes in young and maturity-onset diabetes in young.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is the most common form of diabetes in young people, and the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing due to obesity. Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) typically presents after age 30, and these patients do not require insulin during the first 6 months after diagnosis. A similar clinical profile presenting before age 30 is known as latent autoimmune diabetes in young (LADY). Maturity-onset diabetes in young (MODY) is a monogenic form of diabetes classified into 14 subtypes based on the pathogenic gene variant and systemic manifestati
