Diagnostic Performance of 18F-FDG PET/CT According to Delay After Treatment to Detect Subclinical Recurrence of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains a malignancy with high rates of locoregional recurrence and poor prognosis for recurrent cases. Early detection of subclinical lesions is challenging but critical for effective patient management. Imaging surveillance after treatment, particularly 18F-FDG PET/CT, has shown promise in the diagnosis of HNSCC recurrence. The aim was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of 18F-FDG PET/CT according to delay after treatment in detecting subclinical recurrence (SCR) in HNSCC patients. Methods: In this retrospective study, all 18F-FDG PET/CT scan

Association of Striatal Dopamine Depletion and Brain Metabolism Changes With Motor and Cognitive Deficits in Patients With Parkinson Disease.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Parkinson disease (PD) shows degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and characteristic changes in brain metabolism. However, how they correlated and affect motor and cognitive dysfunction in PD has not yet been well elucidated. METHODS: In this single-site cross-sectional study, we enrolled patients with PD who underwent N-(3-[18F]fluoropropyl)-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl)nortropane (18F-FP-CIT) PET, 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET, the Movement Disorder Society-sponsored Unified PD Rating Scale examination, and detailed neuropsycholo

Deformation-based morphometry applied to FDG PET data reveals hippocampal atrophy in Alzheimer's disease.

Cerebral atrophy is a key finding in patients with dementia and usually determined on MRI. We tested whether cerebral atrophy can be imaged with FDG PET by applying deformation-based morphometry (DBM). We retrospectively identified 26 patients with a biomarker-supported clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) who had received FDG PET on a fully-digital PET/CT system and structural MRI and compared them to 13 healthy elderly controls (HEC). We performed DBM with FDG PET data (FDG-DBM). As a reference standard for determining atrophy we used voxel-based morphometry of MRI data (MRI-VBM).

Brain glucose metabolism as a neuronal substrate of the abnormal behavioral response to stress in the mdx mouse, a model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is associated with a range of cognitive and behavioral problems. Brain-related comorbidities show clinical heterogeneity depending on the position of the mutation within the multi-promoter dystrophin (DMD) gene, likely due to the differential impact of mutations on the expression of distinct brain dystrophins. A deficiency of the full-length brain dystrophin, Dp427, has been associated with enhanced stress reactivity, characterized by abnormal fear responses in both patients and mdx mouse model. However, the neural substrates of this phenotype are still unknow

Frequency and clinical implications of findings on true whole-body 18F-FDG PET in the assessment of breast cancer.

INTRODUCTION: In the assessment of breast cancer using 18-F FDG PET/CT, the incremental clinical benefit in performing a true whole-body PET/CT (with a field of view (FOV) from the vertex to the toes) over a limited whole-body PET/CT (with a FOV from the base of skull to the mid-thighs) is uncertain. METHODS: Two hundred and one studies of 120 patients who underwent staging or restaging true whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT for breast cancer were retrospectively identified. Any abnormal hypermetabolic or structural focus outside the limited FOV was recorded and characterised, and referenced with the

The diagnostic value of prostate-specific membrane antigen PET-CT in differentiating medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw and metastasis to the jawbone.

INTRODUCTION: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) and jaw metastasis might share similar clinical and radiographic characteristics, with both demonstrating F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on PET-CT. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET-CT is used to demonstrate prostate cancer dissemination. Unlike FDG PET-CT, PSMA PET-CT is more specific to cancer than to inflammation. Therefore, we hypothesized that it might be a useful tool to differentiate between MRONJ and jaw metastasis. METHODS: All files of prostate cancer patients diagnosed with MRONJ and with available

Imaging Biomarkers to Predict Outcomes in Patients With Large B-Cell Lymphoma With a Day 28 Partial Response by 18F-FDG PET/CT Imaging Following CAR-T Therapy.

CD19 directed CAR-T therapy for Large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) has shown great therapeutic response in patients with relapsed/refractory disease with response rates of 60-80%. However, in patients with a partial response (PR) on initial day 28 post CAR-T therapy imaging, clinical uncertainty remains as half of these patients will ultimately have relapsed disease.   PATIENTS: In 24 patients receiving CD19 directed CAR-T therapy for relapsed/refractory LBCL achieving a PR on day 28, we utilize imaging biomarkers by 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging at pre CAR-T therapy baseline and day 28 to determine factor

Clinical utility of PET/MRI in multiple myeloma.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI), especially in comparison with PET/computed tomography (CT), which has been widely used in clinical practice in multiple myeloma. METHOD: F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose PET/MRI and PET/ CT studies were done at baseline and when at least a partial response to treatment was achieved. These were done for newly-diagnosed myeloma patients who have not had more than 1 cycle of anti-myeloma treatment, or for relapsed and/or refractory myeloma patients before the start of next

Use of PET/CT to detect myocardial inflammation and the risk of malignant arrhythmia in chronic Chagas disease.

BACKGROUND: Chagas heart disease (CHD) is characterized by progressive myocardial inflammation associated with myocardial fibrosis and segmental abnormalities that may lead to malignant ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. This arrhythmia might be related to the persistence of parasitemia or inflammation in the myocardium in late-stage CHD. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has been used to detect myocardial inflammation in non-ischemic cardiomyopathies, such as sarcoidosis, and might be useful for risk prediction in patients with CHD. METHODS AND RESULTS:

Discordance Between Oncology Clinician-Perceived and Radiologist-Intended Meaning of the Postradiotherapy Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Freeform Report for Head and Neck Cancer.

IMPORTANCE: Assessment of response after radiotherapy (RT) using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (CT) is routine in managing head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Freeform reporting may contribute to a clinician's misunderstanding of the nuclear medicine (NM) physician's image interpretation, with important clinical implications. OBJECTIVE: To assess clinician-perceived freeform report meaning and discordance with NM interpretation using the modified Deauville score (MDS). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this retrospective coh

Optimized Whole-Body PET MRI Sequence Workflow in Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma Patients.

18F-FDG PET/MRI might be the diagnostic method of choice for Hodgkin lymphoma patients, as it combines significant metabolic information from PET with excellent soft-tissue contrast from MRI and avoids radiation exposure from CT. However, a major issue is longer examination times than for PET/CT, especially for younger children needing anesthesia. Thus, a targeted selection of suitable whole-body MRI sequences is important to optimize the PET/MRI workflow. Methods: The initial PET/MRI scans of 84 EuroNet-PHL-C2 study patients from 13 international PET centers were evaluated. In each available

Global brain glucose uptake on 18F-FDG-PET/CT is influenced by chronic cardiovascular risk.

PURPOSE: The goal of this study was to assess global cerebral glucose uptake in subjects with known cardiovascular risk factors by employing a quantitative 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-PET/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) technique. We hypothesized that at-risk subjects would demonstrate decreased global brain glucose uptake compared to healthy controls. METHODS: We compared 35 healthy male controls and 14 male subjects at increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) as assessed by the systematic coronary risk evaluation (SCORE) tool. All subjects were grouped into two age-matched cohorts: young
